Maintenance in-structions for sportyoff-roading
These maintenance instruc-tions were compiled for riderswho want to leave metalledroads and use their motor-cycles for sporty off-roading.Before you go off-roading,BMW Motorrad recommendsinstalling the accessoriessupplied with the motorcycle. In this way you can effectivelyprotect parts of the motor-cycle that could otherwise beat risk. These maintenance instruc-tions describe the proced-ures for installing the off-roadaccessories and the proced-ure for removing the number-plate carrier and the mirrors.
Use the headlight guardonly when off-roading.
Riding on public roads withthe headlight guard fitted tothe motorcycle is prohibited.
Sporty off-roading inevitablyincreases wear and tear onthe motorcycle, so extrachecks and maintenancework over and above thosedescribed in the Rider'sManual are necessary. Theytoo are described in thispublication. All the work described inthese Maintenance Instruc-tions is supplementary to thestandard maintenance workdescribed in the "Service"section of the Rider's Manual. Please bear in mind that if themotorcycle is used for sportyoff-roading, you must complywith these additional mainten-ance instructions in order to
keep the motorcycle in goodrunning order.
Some of the work calls forspecial tools and a thoroughknowledge of motorcycles. If you are in doubt consult aspecialist workshop, prefer-ably your authorised BMWMotorrad dealer.
Damage not attendedto in good time or inad-
equately repaired can result inconsequential damage to themotorcycle.Consult a specialist work-shop, preferably an author-ised BMW Motorrad dealer,as soon as possible if youdiscover that the motorcycleis damaged.
