Greetings and it is my pleasure, as the new Managing Director of IJM Land, to welcome you to our second issue of the I! Magazine!

I am equally excited in this new role and for IJM Land. For more than 32 years, IJM Land has been established as an industry leader, and has a rich and proud history that has made us a premier home-grown property developer close to the hearts of many home buyers in Malaysia and abroad. As a developer with a strong legacy, IJM Land remains committed to its vision of meeting the evolving needs of its customers, while at the same time creating enhanced value to its stakeholders and nurturing community relationships by driving innovation, customer focus and quality excellence.

We at IJM Land spent the last few months having lots of discussions and doing strategy planning and business blueprint. Our team continues to review its operations, and even make improvements to our offerings. Needless to say, customers are at the heart of our business. communityRide for Sight 2015 – in conjunction with Earth Hour

On the last Saturday of March 2015, a charity bike-a-thon was organised by St Nicholas’ Home Penang in partnership with G-Club Penang Cyclists and supported by Penang Island City Council (MBPP) at Queensbay Mall. Ride for Sight (RFS) stands for equal opportunity for the blind and visually impaired (BVI) community with their sighted peers. There were over 600 cyclists who participated in the ride whereby 25 BVI trainees rode on tandem bicycles with sighted pilots. This created an avenue which helped to diminish the public’s perception that the BVI are usually perceived as not being able to lead a life of independence like their sighted peers.

The 15km ride was made even more exciting this year as it was held in conjunction with Earth Hour. RFS 2015 was flagged off at 8:30pm simultaneously with the turning off of non-essential lightings in the mall in support of the sustainable cause.

IJM Land Partners with Nippon Paint Young Designer Award 2015 to promote and nurture young designers and architects of the future

IJM Land is a proud partner of the Nippon Paint Young Designer Award 2015 for the second year running to nurture young talents and spark greater creativity and inspirations amongst architecture and interior design students. The award, which offers two competition categories namely Architecture and Interior Design, has garnered an international recognition by providing a platform for emerging designers to share their ideas with industry experts.

IJM Land Partners The Edge Galerie to Promote Art

The arts are fundamental to our humanity. They ennoble and inspire us – fostering creativity, goodness, and beauty while helping us to express our values, build bridges between cultures, and bring us together regardless of ethnicity, religion, or age. The arts also provide the ability to not only create communities but they create a positive social environment.

With this in mind, the Property Division had partnered with The Edge Media Group in support of The Edge Galerie - an art gallery that focuses on Malaysian and Southeast Asian art. The 2-year partnership beginning from January 2015 will see IJM Land supporting activities such as auctions and art exhibitions with the objective to promote and advance art investment andappreciation. With the rich artistry in Malaysia, it is fitting for IJM to proudly promote Malaysian contemporary art and celebrates the nation’s remarkable talents.

Relay for Life 2015

IJM Land Penang sponsored Relay for Life for the fifth time in 2015. Relay for Life is a worldwide movement that spreads key messages about cancer and raise funds for cancer services. The highlight of the event was Luminaria ceremony whereby paper lanterns were lighted in remembrance of loved ones who had lost the fight against cancer and to honor those whose fight continues. Other activities held were performance by survivors, Dhol Performance by Penang Dhol Federation, live band and flash mob.

Walk with Us

IJM Land Penang participated in Walk with Us, the charity segment of Starwalk, organised by Star Media Group Berhad. This segment enables the sponsor to choose the beneficiary of their choice whereby a sponsorship amounting RM10,000.00 will be chanelled directly to them.

Mosaic Crafting Workshop in conjunction with International Women’s Day 2015

To mark International Women’s Day (“IWD”) in 2015, various non-governmental organisations namely the Women’s Centre for Change, Pusat Perkhidmatan Wanita (Women’s Service Centre) and the Penang IWD 2015 - Organizing Group collaborated and organised a full day event with fun-filled activities.

The theme “Make It Happen” celebrates the achievements of women and calls for greater equality. A Mosaic Crafting Workshop, held for the first time in Penang, was attended by over 70 participants who crafted images of women from broken tiles on plywood pieces. The art pieces were then mounted up on a wall for public display. IJM Land was the main sponsor of this event.

Festive Gift for Needy Families

Some 10 needy families in each district of Seremban received an early Chinese New Year gift when a group of volunteers from the Seremban office presented the festive packs and cash to them at an event officiated by YB Tuan Mohd Ghazali bin Abd Wahid, ADUN Paroi.

Caring for Underprivileged Children

In Johor, IJM Land continued to focus on helping underprivileged children. Employees from Johor office participated in various volunteer activities including visiting and presenting gifts to orphans at the Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak-Anak Yatim Johor and refurbishing homes.

Blood Donation Drive

As part of its corporate social responsibility programme, during the Mid-Autumn Festival, IJM Land organised a blood donation campaign to help the Hospital Duchess of Kent, Sandakan to replenish its blood bank supply. Staff members of Sandakan office also rolled up their sleeves to donate blood.

Employee Volunteering and Giving

An annual event, IJM’s fifth GIVE Day Out was held on5 December 2015. This concept was designed to rallyall staff in flying the Group’s CR flag at every locationwhere IJM enjoys a presence, mainly in Malaysia, Indiaand China.

2015’s theme was ‘Play Around the Playground’. The objective was to rehabilitate or enhance the condition of playgrounds and parks to enable communities; especially children to enjoy the great outdoors, instead of playing and utilising electronic gadgets.

There were 1890 IJM staffs who participated in 2015’s Give Day Out in Malaysia, while 180 staffs participated in this noble initiative in India and China.

Dato’ Soam Heng Choon, CEO and MD of IJM Corporation Berhad was awarded the Property CEO of the Year at the prestigious FIABCI Malaysia Property Award Gala Dinner 2015. Dato’ Soam received the award from D.Y.M.M Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Al-marhum Sultan Iskandar – His Royal Highness, the Sultan of Johor Darul Takzim.

Organised by FIABCI Malaysian Chapter, the Malaysia Property Award is the gold standard for distinguished developers and owners in the real estate industry. It is a platform for pioneers and leaders in real estate to showcase their best.

Prior to his current role as IJM Corporation CEO and MD from 6 April 2015, Dato’ Soam was the CEO and MD at IJM Land and was responsible for the operations and all-round performance of the Company. Under his leadership, Dato’ Soam has led IJM Land to achieve greater heights in customer satisfaction, industry recognition and overall performance.

IJM Land Is 2nd in The Edge’s List of Top Property Developers

IJM Land was No 2 in The Edge Malaysia’s list of Top Property Developers at The Edge Property Excellence Awards 2015. In addition, IJM Land’s iconic mixed-use development, THE LIGHT Waterfront Penang took home The Edge Malaysia Notable Property Achievement Award. The Edge Malaysia Top Property Developers’ Awards ranks Malaysia’s top property players from the consumer’s perspective for their quantitative and qualitative attributes which contribute 35% and 65% weightage respectively, while The Edge Malaysia Notable Property Achievement Award recognises outstanding projects that showcase not only unique concepts and designs but also the commitment of the developers in translating them into reality. IJM Land Managing Director Mr. Edward Chong received the main Top Developer award, while IJM Land northern region Senior General Manager Dato’ Toh Chin Leong received the award for THE LIGHT Waterfront Penang.

IJM Land was named as one of the Top 10 Developers in Malaysia at the 11th annual BCI Asia Awards 2015 ceremony. The BCI Asia Awards recognises ten property developers and architecture firms in seven Asian regions, including Hong Kong SAR, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, that have made the greatest impact on the building environment in the prior year. The winners of 2015 were identified as the firms with the greatest aggregate value of projects under construction during the last full calendar year by the extent of their sustainability efforts and Green building ratings.

IJM Land Berhad was named as one of the Top 10 Developers in Malaysia at the 11th annual BCI Asia Awards 2015 ceremony.

IJM Land Wins Bronze at the 6th

Putra Brand Awards IJM Land was awarded the bronze award in the property development category at the sixth Putra Brand Awards 2015.

The event was organised by the Association of Accredited Advertising Agents Malaysia (4As) and endorsed by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade).

Touted by the organisers as a brand award chosen by the people, over 6,000 consumers nationwide were surveyed to determine Malaysia’s favourite brands in 24 categories, with the most preferred brands for each category taking home the gold, silver, and bronze awards.

THE LIGHT Waterfront Penang is strategically located on the eastern coastline of Penang Island, a short ride from the airport and easily accessible via road, bridge and water links.

IJM Land’s efforts and belief in sustainable development have been recognised internationally – its iconic waterfront project THE LIGHT Waterfront Penang has been conferred the World Silver Award in the Master Plan category at the FIABCI World Prix D’Excellence Awards 2015.

The winners were selected by an international panel of experienced real estate experts and were evaluated on architecture and design; development and construction; financial and marketing; environmental impact and community benefits.

The visionary development is truly one of IJM Land’s jewel offerings, representing our initiative to showcase the best in integrated waterfront living with residential, commercial, hospitality and entertainment components all housed in one dynamic hub. The overall landscape masterplan and buildings orientation within Pantai Sentral Park was envisioned and planned through adopting the Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) approach.
