PROJECT DESCRIPTION

First we worked in the field, (the students visited the birthplaces of their parents and ancestors, traveling along the Dalmatian islands and the

Dalmatian hinterland), then we browsed the internet and talked to experts.

Otoci i otočići

Dalmatian islands are famous since ancient times for their important strategic and nautical position, the wealth of historic,

cultural and natural monuments and the literature.

The mild climate and a luscious Mediterranean nature

Beautiful beaches, crystal clear blue sea and pine forests

The rich tradition and stone houses

Unexplored areas and ancient ruins

Cultural and historical monuments

Olive trees

Lavander

Small taverns and unique gastronomy

Homemade wine and songs

Dalmatian hinterland - a region deprived of the benefits of the sea,

yet in no way inferior or less interesting.

The wealth of the region lies in the beautiful

scenery, material and non-material cultural

heritage, sites that are significant for Croatian history, gastronomy ...

Dalmatian hinterland has a great potential for tourism, due to its many rivers in the karst,

lakes and mountains…

Games and role play "Building a highway through this natural

resource, yes or no."

History, tradition, folklore, customs and all that represents the cultural richness, still lives in the people of

this region.

Proof of this is the sound of unique ways of singing called rera, ojkanje, ganga and sijavica passed from generation to generation for

centuries.

Historic sites as remnants of the past, forts, churches and stone mills are only a part of what this region has to offer.

Old crafts

Local dishes prepared in the traditional way

The unique and rich taste of homemade Prosciutto and

cheese makes this region so special.

Horseback riding, hiking and fishing

Old games and sports

PUPILS' CREATIVITY

Thanks to this project, pupils slowly revealed their curiosity and creativity while researching the sea and the stone. It served as

inspiration for the creation of posters, themed tasks (crosswords, riddles), as well as music and art motives for writing songs and reading

texts of famous writers which reflect the image of the sunny Mediterranean with olives, cypresses, sea, stone, crickets’ songs thus

nurturing dialect expression and Croatian language in general.

The best project evaluation is the abundance of photographs, informative posters, literary and artistic children's works which were

exhibited in the school.

The Literary workshop

A play about the sea

Pupils present a small dictionary of Split’s speech

First graders are learning the letters of the alphabet from books written in the local dialect

Art workshop

Music day

The old Dalmatian dances and costumes

Traditional ways ofsinging

Games and role play "A tourist who misbehaves as opposed to considerate tourists"

Overcoming obstacles by Folk traditions

Map, statistics and calculations (number and size of the islands, towns and villages, the

UNESCO list of natural and cultural heritage sites)

The special value of this project is the socializing of parents and children and their shared exploration of nature, culture and tradition.

The school psychologists Ivanka Todoric helped us in discovering the guidelines and ideas for reviving and fostering these values.

Our pupil with special needs

Vale gladly participated in

the project

PRESENTATION OF THE PROJECT

The work on the project and project results were presented in the school through interactive

exhibition I love the sea, stone and Dalmatia

The exhibition opened on Tuesday, 30th September 2014, with the participation of children, their parents, classmates and friends and coverage

in the local and national media (TV and newspapers)

CONCLUSION

While working on this project, we realized how important Dalmatia is and what a rich history it has.

Dalmatia is not just the sea and stone, Dalmatia is much more than

that.

Dalmatia is a wealth that must be preserved.

¸

Our pupils are still working hard among the stones and pines and without a doubt, we can expect more miracles from them.
