WHAT IF I DO NOT DO WELL IN A COURSE?• For each course in the Preparatory
Program (Grades 9 and 10) and IB DP we
use Ontario course codes.
• If a student fails a course in Grade 9 or 10,
he she can do the course in the next
semester and/or in the summer, for
example, Grade 10 Mathematics
(MPM2DB) is less than 50%, the student
should take Grade 10 MPM2D in Semester
2 and MCR3U in the summer (IB DP
courses in Grade 11 start with MHF4U,
which requires MCR3U as a prerequisite).
• Similar situation is with any other failed
courses. Most universities will allow for 1-2
repeated courses (depending on the
program and the university).
• Standard Level Mathematics is comparable
to Grade 12 Mathematics courses in
Ontario (MHF4U-Advanced Functions,
MCV4U-Calculus and Vectors, and
MDM4U-Data Management)
• Higher Level Mathematics requires much
more from the students in terms of
problem solving and higher level thinking
skills. Students should consult their
Mathematics teacher for proper choices of
levels.
