He is called the “Father of our country.”

He was born in Virginia.Before he was president, George Washington was a farmer and a leader of soldiers.

Abraham Lincoln

Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States.

His nickname was “Honest Abe.”

He was born in a log cabin. Although very poor, he taught himself to read and became a lawyer before being president.

Pocahontas

Pocahontas was an American Indian girl who was a helper and a friend to the settlers in Jamestown.

Betsy Ross

Betsy Ross is believed to have sewn the first flag for our country.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

Martin Luther King, Jr. was an African American citizen who worked for the fairness of all people.

There is a holiday in February to celebrate and remember how Martin Luther King, Jr. worked so that all people would be treated fairly.

Benjamin Franklin

Benjamin Franklin proved that electricity was in lightning.

He started the first library and the first volunteer fire department.

He developed hundreds of uses for the peanut, sweet potato and soy bean.
