BREAKDOWN OF DEMOCRACY

What is Tolerance?

• Tolerance includes respecting, accepting and appreciating all individuals, as they

are.

• The term tolerance is mentioned nowhere in the Indian Constitution.

• The Constitution takes a more ideal position.

• In our opinion, tolerance establishes a relationship of domination and subjugation

and places individuals in a system of hierarchies.

• We should instead promote harmonious social coexistence.

The Way Ahead Change must be brought about in mind-set of the people. Avoiding mob violence and destruction of public property. Free exchange of ideas must be encouraged. Education must be encouraged. Human Rights must be upheld. Media trail must be stopped. Democratic institutions must be stabilized. Governance must be in accordance with the principles of the Indian Constitution. Opposition must play a healthy role in a democratic set-up.
