In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media

products?

Obadiah Parker as a artist primarily focuses on acoustic, country tracks. The one I had chosen was a cover of a pop track ‘Hey Ya’ which was originally done by the ‘Outcasts’. Similar artists out be someone like Charlie Simpson, the former band member from busted has now moved on and taken some religious influences to make his new album ‘farmer and his gun’.

Looking at Similar artists

Most acoustic video’s are composed of either two things, a storyline in which the main protagonist or artist goes on a journey related to the song or a unplugged music based video with various instruments and musical equipment.

Acoustic Music video’s

This insight into unplugged music video’s ultimately led me to shoot in a recording studio with my actor playing the artist. The various shots of equipment, instruments and live action shots of vocals and guitar playing stayed true to the overall style of the unplugged theme.

How this influenced me

One of the major influences for my unplugged concept was a music video of one of my friends bands ‘Amy Wyke’, she has recently been shooting music video’s for Gibson and all of her video’s are live action performances which have no story just playing

My video has challenged the standard story telling type theme, instead i have gone for a more stripped back and instrument orientated video. Research has shown that most acoustic music video’s are heavily based around this idea.

I did not feel the need for a heavy special effects driven video. I felt that the idea of acoustic music is that everything should be stripped back and the music video should reflect this concept otherwise the music video would look more like a modern concept video showing off the digital age.

What challenges forms and Conventions

Overall my video didn't follow the usual music video style, although it follows the smaller more niche themes of a acoustic unplugged video. My video has all the elements of a unplugged acoustic music video from instruments, equipment and live action filming.
