Cathe the WindCathe the Wind with Triessence
Mark Allaway saxophone • Nick Tomalin piano • Dominic Howles double bass
Bill Evans probably the most influential pianist of modern times used his varied compositional skills to showcase hisunique talent. Triessence has taken eleven of these compositions as vehicles for their own trio format of piano, bass andsaxophone. Some of the pieces included have rarely been recorded others have had more attention, but as a whole theyprovide a spectrum of Evans work. Although there has been no effort made to recreate any of Bill Evans recordings ofthese compositions, the performances are full and rich in his musical spirit.Catch The Wind, Walkin' Up, Peace Piece, C Minor Blues Chase, Letter To Evan, G Waltz, The Opener, Your Story, Funkallero, A Simple Matter Of Conviction, In AprilZZCD 9822
First ImprFirst Impressionession with the Band of OboesRob Rogers oboes, oboe d'amore & cor anglais • Steve Lock bassoon & contra' • Mark Robinson
guitar • Adrian Knight piano • Brian Strong bass • Will Rogers drums & percussion
The band of Oboes "First Impression" CD is a sparkling new sound. 5 oboe players juggle between oboe, oboe d'amore and cor anglais backedby keyboards, guitars, bass and drums. The 16 tracks are immensely varied ranging from full out jazz funk, Latin American and ballads, thendown to only two players weaving together in intimate duets. The playing is tight yet still has a live vibrant flavour. The only cover is a sonataby Telemann given a jazz feel. An original and eclectic album infused with great enthusiasm and humour. Rob Rogers (Oboist and originatorof the music) says that his first inspiration was the fantastic sound of "highly strung reeds" playing in a tight knit ensemble.
The Key to Happiness, Mr Cheesy Smiles, El Gato Inglès, Dalyan, Desiderata, Inside Out,Onomatopoeia - Ba-ba-diddly doo-dah, Doo...... doo-wah, Ma-na, ma-na, Lost Cause - a ballad,Reel motivation - Tell me, man - A minor sonata, Cool breeze from Sicily, ....enthusiasticallyspirited, Walking calmly, Swingin' vivaciously, Reed all about it ZZCD 9823
