Indian Badminton League is a franchise league byBadminton Association of India (BAI). 

 The league has 6 franchises representing the Indian cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune, Hyderabad and Lucknow.

Each team has 12 players including 4 foreign players.

Broadcast rightsSTAR Sports India has bagged the Indian broadcasting rights for the fortnight-long tournament.

6Franchise -based City team will compete.

Franchise number will increase over time with founder franchise’s rights protected .

The inaugral of IBL season will run for 18 days.

Each franchise will play each other at-least once.

Matches to be played on SURDIMAN CUP format. Team that win 3 out of 5 matches wins the tie

Two - day city format to be applied .This means of 5 team first visit one host city ,play the matches and then ‘Shuttle Express’ moves to other city for next round.

Each franchise to play minimum 5 ties –total 25 matches 2 semifinals and 1 final .

GAME FORMAT

There will be five matches in each round Men and Women singles Men,Women and Mixed doubles

and women singles , women and mixed doubles Each team will play 18 ties of best of 5 matches.

The victor will be the one who first reaches 21 point in the first 2 games and does not need 2 point difference .

If the game goes to the 3rd and decide set , it will be 11 point match.

RULES

• Player’s Auction for the first IBL(2013) was held in Delhi on 22 July 2013.

• League Kicked off at Delhi with a Gala Ceremony on 14 August 2013.

• Highest Paid Player was Lee Chong Wei (Malaysian), sold for $135,000 to Mumbai Masters.

• Highest Paid Indian Player was Saina Nehwal, sold to Hyderabad for $120,000.
