QUESTIONS???

Greens Aeration 2011

Why!?!?

• The greens are perfect the way they were! • I can’t believe you’re going to put all those big

holes in our greens! • The greens are going to be slow and bumpy! • Sand, why so much sand?

I DON’T UNDERSTAND!

HAVE NO FEAR, THERE’S A REASON FOR THIS

MADNESS!

Why do you have to Aerify?

• Goals:

– Relieve soil compaction

– Control organic matter accumulation -- THATCH

• Excessive thatch = disease, soft greens, poor turf

– Improve surface and subsurface drainage

– Promote proper air and water exchange

– Firm and smooth the putting surface

The Process

• Double verticut

• Pull ½” cores of soil

• Harvest the cores and clean surface

• Apply soil amendments

• Apply sand topdressing

• Incorporate sand into green

• Roll

• Water

Finished Product

When will the greens be healed?

• On average it takes 3-4 weeks for holes to completely heal.

• Weather dependent

– Cool weather = slower healing times

1 week after

2 weeks after

3 weeks after

Course Closures & Timeline

• Course will be open

• Temporary greens will be in play on the holes we are working on

• Each green will be reopened as soon as processes are complete

• Plan on roughly 6-7 holes per day

• If all goes well we should be done mid-week

• Check Pro-shop Hotline for updates

Tees & Fairways • Tees:

– Verticut

– Pull ½” cores

– Drag in

– Blow off left over debris

• Fairways: – Venting -- Relieves compaction & air exchange
