About the Online Community

Directory

LINCS stands for the Local Information Network for Community Services and the directory has thousands of location maps and links to websites and email addresses.

North Sydney Council’s online Community Directory is designed to help residents and staff find detailed information about services, events and activities based in the local area, such as childcare, sports and social clubs and support services.

LINCS is updated regularly by over 50 local councils, government departments and community organisations and is accessed via their individual websites.

For more information, or to have your group listed, contact the Community Information Officer at North Sydney Council on 9936 8100 or fill in an information form which is available on the website:

How to Use the Community Directory

Once you are on the Community Directory page on North Sydney Council’s website (see right) you are ready to begin your search:

1. Check Location? Enter the postcode or suburb of where you live or work. The reason this needs to be done first is because the database displays the services closest first. Whatever is put in this time will come up as the default next time, but you can change the location at any time.

2. Find? You can search either using a

keyword or name on the left search box or can choose to browse categories on the right hand side if you have more of a general enquiry. This may be about a certain subject area, such as volunteering opportunities for example.

Once you have searched there should be a list of organisations in blue that fit the criteria you have typed in such as, for example childcare, which will list all the organisations that provide childcare closest to you. You can be as specific as you like.

Click on the record that interests you and a record will come up with further details and a map of the location, including hours, fees, transport and disability access. From this record you can click on the organisation’s website, send them an email or you can go back to the search list or do a new search.
