The BioRegion

512 companies in the BioRegion: 194 biotechnology firms, 40 pharmaceutical corporations, 54 medical technology businesses, 105 suppliers and engineering firms, 96 professional services companies and consultancies and 23 investors.

56 research centers with activity in the life sciences or related disciplines (nanotechnology, photonics, etc.) with a joint yearly budget of more than €380 millions, more than 900 research groups and 360 research projects.

17 university hospitals with more than 3,500 researchers devoted to biomedical research.

11 universities that offer life sciences degrees (of a total of 12).  More than 30,000 students enrolled in these degrees at Catalan universities in the 2011-2012 academic year.
