Cellular “Energy $avings”
Energy Tip Room Darkening fabrics work well in warmer climates where
heat can build up (solar loading) and be trapped in the cell. Sheer fabrics work well in cooler climates by letting light in while cutting glare
Inherent product features (Fabric Options):▪ Continuous piece of fabric provides a high level of insulation, acting as a
barrier between the window and the room.
▪ The “cells” in the fabric are pockets that trap hot and cold air, keeping your room warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer
▪ Use double cell cellular shades, as these foster reduced air flow and greater energy efficiency.

Step 3: Choose Your Carefree Options
» Standard Corded
» Cordless

Cellular “Energy $avings”
Energy Tip If you live in sunny/warmer climates, lower shades on
summer days to reduce solar heat gain.
Product features (Carefree Options):▪ Cordless option vs. a Standard Cord Lock Control. Cordless reduces
the gap on the side (between the edge of the shade and window molding) providing greater window coverage
▪ A room that is hot in the summer or has direct sunlight, suggest the cordless top down bottom up option to allow the sun in at the top while preventing direct sunlight from coming into the room.

Roman “Energy $avings”
Energy Tip Room Darkening fabrics work well in warmer climates where
heat can build up (solar loading) and be trapped in the cell. Sheer fabrics work well in cooler climates by letting light in while cutting glare
Inherent product features (Fabric Options):▪ Continuous piece of fabric provides a high level of insulation, acting as a
barrier between the window and the room.
▪ Heavier fabric options provide additional insulation and energy savings over light weight fabrics.
▪ Light Filtering and Room Darkening liners provide added insulation. Levolor Roman Shades offer the most room darkening fabrics in the industry.

Roman “Energy $avings”
Energy Tip Make sure blinds and shades fit their frames correctly to reduce
airflow around the treatment.
Inherent product features (Carefree Options):▪ Choose the flat style (versus hobbled) in windows with minimal depth.
Why? The fabric is closer to the window providing a higher insulation value.
▪ Cordless option vs. Standard Cord Lock Control. Cordless reduces the gap on the side (between the edge of the shade and window molding) providing greater window coverage. Note: this also applies to cellular shades
▪ A room that is hot in the summer or has direct sunlight, roman cordless top down bottom up option allows the sun in at the top while preventing direct sunlight from coming into the room.

Wood “Energy $avings”
Energy Tip Wood slats should be tilted in up in the summer when the
sun is high, this will cut the heat but still allow light. Slats should be tilted down in the winter when the sun is lower to allow light in, but keep cold out.
Inherent Product features (Materials):▪ Real Wood blinds are a natural insulator.
