INSPIRE AND CONNECT

POP UP STORE AND CREATIVE HUB................................................................................................................

BY NIKETA TRIPP

A pop-up shop and creative hub for young creatives to get inspired and get connected to like-minded people.

Inspire and Connect was a weeklong event to cel-ebrate the young creatives of Bristol. With it being such a unique city and the standard of work from young people so high. I wanted to create a place to see what other people are doing, giving young peo-ple a chance to showcase work and talk to others, hopefully inspiring them.

The aim of the project was to launch the online store Hollie and Jack, they are only seventeen years old but have the ambition to go far. Taking the store of-fline gave an opportunity for people to interact phys-ically with the brand.

The space also offered a chance to showcase young creatives work. Laura Beaven, Lilli Kielczewski and Charlie Dennis are all featured in the space. They are all from Bristol and are either currently in col-lege, university or have recently graduated.

A showcase of young talent.

Hollie and Jack is an independent Bristol based e-store that started in the autumn of 2012, selling second hand/retro/vintage clothing. Carefully hand-picked items from market stalls, thrift stores and the internet, taking inspiration from current street trends.

They aim to find unique garments that are popular on the street, changing their stock when trends do, keeping up to date with this is important to them. They also keep a close eye on social media, looking closely at visual sites such as Instagram and Tumblr as these sites show them the trends and inspiration from young people on the street.

Bristol based DJ’s Bromley music played; they are three young creatives who have lots of ambition to make it in the music world. The turn out was a huge, the atmosphere was great and the music really complement-ed the brand making it an enjoyable and successful evening.

LAUNCH NIGHT

Born in Bristol and a student at the University of the West of England

A Bristol born student of Graphic Design at University of the West of England, who likes to dabble in typography, illustration and sculpture. I work in a way that celebrates craft, honing each of my skills over time. In my opinion how-ever, the pinnacle of craft can never be fully reached. Being kept motivated through con-stant growth and improvement is the very essence of what craft is about. The pieces on show aim to give a flavour of my skill base, they range from commissioned pieces to uni-versity projects all completed within the last year.

LAURA BEAVEN

A painter living in London orig-inally from Bristol, working with light shadow and space to manipulate perception using unique geometric forms. The three paintings on show, ‘Lay-ered Series #1’, are my most recent works that explore the relationship between the forms and the space they are in. This space being the surface they exist on and extending into the room they inhibit.
