Has remained ignored in the country . Only 14 nursing Institutes in the

country offer undergraduate/graduate programs with total annual enrollment of about 700 students.

All other nursing schools, offer Three years Diploma programs

Doctor Nurse ratio in Pakistan is 3 :1

Recommended ratio is 1:3 (WHO)

Total Registered Nurses by PNC in Pakistan 52960.while total registered Doctors by PMDC in Pakistan is 121374.

Highly qualified and skilled nurses are required to meet the challenges of modren times.

Standard of health care in any health facility can not be improved without enhancing skills of nurses.

Objectives

To produce highly skilled nurses by offering Bachelors, Masters and PhD programs & improving professional skills of nurses through theoretical & practical training courses.

To improve quality of care at health care facilities by decreasing acute shortage of qualified and skilled nurses in the country

To enhance standard of nursing education in the country

Faculty development and collaboration with National and International universities

To promote research in the field of nursing through trainings, research grants and research collaborations with National and International research institutions.

Established in year 2006 with the support of Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, with the approved cost of Rs.182.077 Million

Two years Post RN B.Sc Nursing Program classes started in April 2006 in renovated building of paramedical institute . 50 students admitted on merit basis after inviting applications from eligible students and written Entry test .

Prof.Atta-Ur-Rehman ,Advisor federal government & chairman higher education commission Pakistan performed stone laying ceremony of Nursing Institute & Hostel Building on June 3rd 2006.

Pakistan Nursing Council recognized the institute on September 22nd ,2007.

First batch of 47 students (Post RN BSc N)

graduated in March 2008.

The Institute shifted to the new state of art building on March 10th ,2008.

Ten additional Nursing Faculty members appointed on 20th March,2008 on contract basis .

Guest lecture series started in April, 2008. Dr.Yasmeen Amarsi delivered Guest Lecture.

Summer Institute : Summer institute to provide educational

opportunities to practicing nurses who can not afford full time studies.

Summer courses from 28th June to 30th September 2008.

In 2008 total 60-students enrolled in three different summer courses.

Five courses planed for year 2009 about 100-students will be enrolled.

Faculty Development Program :

Appointment of faculty regularized through syndicate on permanent basis on September 2008.

Comprehensive faculty development program developed to enhance qualification and skills of faculty members November 2008.

MSc Nursing at AKU School Of Nursing , Distance Learning Program at foreign universities,MSc ,PhD and Post graduate courses U.K,USA & Canada.

Workshops ,Seminars and Conferences National and International .
