●To convert from a larger unit to a smaller unit, MULTIPLY(move the decimal point to the right).●To convert from a smaller unit to a larger unit, DIVIDE(move the decimal point to the left).

CONVERSIONS:

Example 1: Complete

A) 10 km = ____________ cm

B) 40 m = _____________km

C) 14 m = _____________mm

D) 3500 mm = _________m

Use your remote to answer question D.

Example 1: Complete

A) 10 km = 1,000,000 cm

B) 40 m = 0.040 km

C) 14 m =14,000 mm

D) 3500 mm = 3.5 m

Change 29 quarts to gallons.

●Divide by 4●There are 4 quarts in 1 gallon.●We are moving from a smaller unit to a larger unit.●7 gallons with a remainder of 1, so...●7 gallons 1 quart

Change yd to inches.

● Multiply by 36

● Why?

● There are 36 inches in 1 yd.

● Are we moving from a smaller unit to a larger unit?

● Answer?

● 24 inches

● Divide by 24● Why? ● There are 16 ounces in a pound.● Answer? ● 1 lbs 8 oz

Challenge: Ramona has a dress pattern that calls for 7 yd of lace. She already has ft of lace. How much lace does she need to buy?

7 yd to feet =

7 X 3 = 21 feet

21 – 4 = 17 ft
