Quality to International StandardsMordec International engages primarily in the manufacturing, distributing and marketing of MORDEC
™ Solutions, and jointly manages with its partners, production facilities located across Asia.
To ensure product quality and durability, MORDEC™ products undergo fatigue testing which is a
dynamic testing mode used to simulate how a component will behave under real life stress conditions.
This is done by applying cyclic loading to a test specimen to understand how it will perform under
similar conditions in actual use. Fatigue testing allow users to predict the in-service life of MORDEC™
products.

General Instructions For Safe Use Of ShacklesThe following information is of a general nature covering universal safety guidelines on the use and
maintenance of shackles. Operating guidelines may vary with specified use conditions, industry or
government regulations. Shackles can be used in a wide variety of applications including lifting, tying,
suspending and towing. Careful selection of shackles should be made based on the load conditions when
planning lifting activities.
Shackles are sized according to the dimension of the bow structure and not the
pin. When selecting shackles, two types of designs are available anchor and chain.
Both used either with screw pins or bolt and nut configuration. Anchor shackle can
be used for in-line load lifting as well as side-lifting with reduced working load limit,
while Chain shackle are strictly used for in-line load lifting only.
Quality To International StandardsMordec Shackles are manufactured using only high tensile carbon and alloy steel, and are engineered to meet
the high performance requirements of US Federal Specification RR-C-271D with key features as follows:
Forged Carbon Steel Body and Alloy Steel Pin
Design factor of 6 to 1
Proof load at 2 times the working load limit
Individually marked with raised letters on the bow
with the working load limit, CE, manufacturer’s
name, traceability code and size
Unique traceability code for every batch with full
records of material composition
Consistent mechanical properties
Prevention of catastrophic failure by elongating or
deforming on overloading
Impression die forged for closer tolerance and
material density
Fatigue tested at 1.5 times of working load limit
Hot dipped galvanised finishing with an average
thickness of one hundred microns
Side Loading Load Limit Reduction ChartSide loading should be avoided where possible as the Working Load Limit is reduced. If side loading must take
place, the following information must be taken into consideration.

General Instructions For Safe Use Of ShackleInspection and Maintenance:
Shackles should be kept in dry, clean conditions and free from corrosion inducing elements
Thorough inspection should be done regularly by a Competent Person.
Replace shackles that show any sign of elongation, distortion, corrosion, fractures or wear of more than
10% of the original dimension of the shackle.
A bent shackle indicates excessive side-loading and elongation shows overloading was performed.
All markings on the shackle bow should be clearly legible.
All pins should be straight and fit completely when seated in eye holes
Shackle must not be modified, repaired, replaced by unknown pins, or reshaped by heating or bending
If in doubt, the shackle should not be used and always refer to a Competent Person for examination
During Operations:Screw pins should be correctly engaged into the shackle eye and fully tightened by hand.
For bolt and nut shackle, ensure that the nut is placed at the inner end of the thread and cotter pin must
be fitted.
Avoid loading in a manner that will result in shock loading the shackle.
Ensure load applied is centralized at the bow, use spacers if necessary and avoid pulling at an angle.
Do Not Use Unknown PinsDo not replace pin with unidentified parts as the load will bend it. Only use the original part supplied, shackles with missing parts must not be used.
Do Not ModifyDo not attempt to alter, repair, weld or reshape the shackle by heating or bending. Use proper size of connecting components and ensure that all the connections fit properly.
Do Not Pull At An AngleDo not pull at an angle or in a manner that allows the pin to unwind if screw pins are used. The load applied should be positioned at the centre of the bow body to be in a straight direction.
Inspect Shackles RegularlyAll markings should be legible. Inspect the bow for any sign of bending, defect, wear or fractures. Pins should be straight and seat fully in eye hole. Size of gap between eyes should not widen.

Instructions for Safe Use of Chain Sling and AccessoriesThis information is of a general nature covering universal safety guidelines on the use and maintenance of
chain slings for general lifting purposes. Operating guidelines may vary with specified use conditions,
industry or government regulations.
Quality To International StandardsMordec Grade 80 sling fittings are manufactured using only high tensile alloy steel for its strong mechanical
properties, and tested to EN-818 for alloy chain, EN-1677 for fittings.
Forged alloy steel body, quenched and tempered
Design factor of 4 to 1
Proof load tested at 2.5 times the working load limit
Prevention of catastrophic failure by deforming on
overloading
Fatigue rated at 1.5 times of working load limit to
20,000 cycles
Impression die forged for closer tolerance and
material strength
Unique traceability code for every batch with full
records of material composition
Individually marked with raised letters with the
manufacturer’s name, CE, traceability code, G8 and
component size
Asymmetric Loading ConditionsIn the case of non-symmetrical load, more precaution must be taken to minimise the risk of overloading. The
centre of gravity (COG) should be determined and the point of lift should be directly above the COG. The load
should be rigged to the COG where possible. In the case where asymmetric loading conditions cannot be
avoided, the following working load limit should be used.
2-Leg sling is to calculate as 1-Leg sling for each leg
3-Leg and 4-Leg sling is to calculate as 2-Leg sling for every 2 legs.
Connecting components must match the determined chain size
Extreme Working ConditionsAvoid using slings in environments where alkaline or
acidic or corrosion inducing conditions are present.
Slings used in such conditions must be regularly
inspected. Extreme temperature will affect the working
load limit and slings should not be used in temperatures
beyond specified in the table.

Instructions for Safe Use of Chain Sling and AccessoriesAlloy chain can be used in a variety of applications including lifting, lashing and towing, and are often selected for
operations in rough conditions as they are flexible, strong and durable. Careful selection of slings and fittings should
be made based on load conditions when planning lifting activities. Only alloy chain and accessories that are Grade
80 and above can be used for lifting applications.
Care and Maintenance Chain slings must be cleaned prior to any inspection as dirt or oil may hide any damage
All slings must be kept in clean and dry storage area to prevent rust or corrosion
Slings should preferably be stored on wall racks or hooks or A-frames
A record of chain sling usage and maintenance must be kept to ensure regular care of slings
Sling must be inspected every 6 months for any damage
Slings identification tags must be present, do not use unknown slings
Clean slings regularly as dirt or sand will cause wear at load bearing points
Slings should be oiled prior to any long storage
Do not heat or modify any part of the chain or component
Any damaged slings and repairs must be referred to a Competent Person for examination
All slings and fittings must be inspected for the following: Slings should not have any twists or kinks on
the chain.
Checked hooks for deformation and replace if
found bent
Damaged or chemically contaminated slings
must not be used.
Replace chain and fittings that show any sign
of elongation, distortion, corrosion, fractures or
wear of more than 10% of the original
dimension of the fitting.
Sling and fittings must not be modified,
reshaped or heated.
Identification tag should be present for every
set of sling
Correct sling configuration and connectors
should be used
Slings with more than 2 leg must connect to a
Master Link Assembly instead of single Master
Link.
Check Sling For:correct sling configuration,ID tag must be present
Check Sling For:kinks, twists, knots, nicks, cracks, bent or enlongated links of > 10% oforiginal diameter
Check Sling For:deformation, distortion, fractures, corrosion, wear or elongation of > 10%of original diameter

Instructions for Safe Use of Chain Sling and AccessoriesBefore Lifting – Always Plan The Lift Each lifting operation should be conducted by a Competent Person who must first plan the lift by calculating
the load weight, centre of gravity, lifting method, rated working load limit, inspect the equipment and prepare
the area where the operation will take place.
Important Warning During Any Lift Do not exceed the rated WLL of the sling or component whichever being lower rated
Correct size sling and components must be used for the load including angles or uneven load
Ensure load is fully supported at the bow of the hook, not at the tip
Hooks must be positioned facing outwards when lifting with multi-leg slings
Avoid dragging the load or shock loading, conduct the lift slowly and gradually
Do not tie a knot with the chain, always use a grab hook if shorter length is required
Lifting point must be over the centre of gravity to ensure a balance load on all legs of the sling
Use packing to prevent damage to the sling or the load on sharp edges
For safety reasons, no one should be allowed near or under the load during lifting
Slings should be rigged in a manner to discourage rotation of the load or use a tagline if required
Ensure chain or components do not get crushed or pressed during lifting or lowering
Always check operation instructions if to be used in extreme conditions or temperatures
Hooks Must Not Face Each OtherHooks must be positioned to face outwards when using slings with more than 1 leg.
Do Not Have Personnel Near The LoadDuring any lifting operation, no one is to be allowed near the load or under the load.

SAFETY INFORMATION ON POLYESTER WEBBING SLINGS The use of polyester sling for lifting applications has many advantages as it is light, easy to handle, flexible and has relatively high strength to weight ratio. It is commonly used to lift fragile cargo as it will not damage the cargo surface, and may also be used in explosive or hazardous environment as it will not cause sparks from friction. Due to the material properties, polyester slings are also less affected by oils, chemicals and are resistant to twists and kinks.
Mordec polyester webbing slings and ratchet lashings are manufactured with high tenacity web made of pure polyester yarn.
Key Features Closely weaved web with low elongation Abrasion, damage and wear resistant Good strength to weight ratio Visible and clear identification Produced to meet international standards
INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE Slings should always be inspected for any damage to assure that the strength has not been compromised. Ensure all identification and specification are correct prior to use and remove all slings from service if there are signs of cut webbing, chemical, UV damage, extensive wear or other defects.
GUIDE TO SAFE LIFTING Avoid using or storing slings in high temperature above 200F or exposed to strong chemicals Prolong exposure to ultra-violet light eg. sunlight will cause polyester slings to weaken Slings showing signs of UV damaged eg. bleached, stiff appearance should be retired 32 Do not overload or perform shock loading on slings Protect slings from sharp edges and abrasion, use protective sleeves if necessary Do not twist, brunch or tie knots in the sling
Symptoms Description Preventive Measures

Abrasion Surface wear Broken stitches
Worn patches Melted fibers Discolouration
Stained or discolored area, area of webbing that looks worn or fuzzy with fibers out of alignment indicating contact with a rough surface.
Patches where fiber is discolored or melted, fused together; areas where fiber feels stiff and inflexible. May be caused by chemical or heat damage.
Avoid brushing the sling against rough surfaces, dragging the sling on the ground or pull the sling from under the load while load is on the ground. Use wear pads to protect against abrasion if required.
Do not use slings in high temperatures beyond recommendations or with chemicals that sling material is incompatible with. Strong chemicals should be avoided,

RATCHET LASHING SYSTEM Mordec Ratchet Lashing Tie Downs are light-weight synthetic web straps with hooks at the ends to secure cargo to vehicle structures. The polyester material does not damage delicate surfaces and is easy to handle. The heat treated and toughened web provides strong and durable support to the cargo during transportation.
Always ensure that safety measures are followed when using these devices: Do not use ratchet lashing for lifting or pulling of load Do not overload, secure more lashing to anchor points to manage working load limit Do not twist, brunch or tie knots in the webbing Avoid dragging on the ground or use against sharp edges Prolong exposure to ultra-violet light eg. sunlight will cause polyester web to weaken Slings showing signs of UV damaged eg. bleached, stiff appearance should be retired
