INVESTINGIN A SAFECOMMUNITY
HISTORY OF SERVICE
Since its founding as a frontier outpost of the
Western Reserve, Cleveland has been a great
place to live. As our city and northeast Ohio con-
tinued to grow and prosper, its citizens estab-
lished a great sense of community, one in which
to raise a family and make a good living…. a
community we can all be proud to call home!
Our police officers are an integral part of that
community, protecting its citizens and their
property. They can’t do it alone, as every citizen
plays a role in making our neighborhoods safer.
The Cleveland Division of Police has a proud and storied history of service. Members put their
lives on the line every day for their fellow citizens. Since its inception, 109 Cleveland Police
Officers have died in the line of duty. Needless to say, the Cleveland Police are committed to
doing their part in working to make our community safer.
WHO WE ARE
In 2010, The Cleveland Police Foundation became the reality of police officials and civic visionar-
ies after they identified a need to support the Division of Police for the City of Cleveland and the
numerous activities they conduct on behalf of the community. Acting on the advice of three local civic
leaders, Samuel H. Miller, Edward A. Lozick,
and Thomas D. Ganley, former Police Chief
Michael McGrath created an organization
that held their collective dreams. Their vision,
desire, and determination led to an organi-
zation that positively impacts the Division of
Police and their endeavors to engage the
community, to create opportunities for col-
laboration with neighborhoods, children,
and adults, and be an integral part of the
fabric of the community.
HOW THE CLEVELAND POLICE FOUNDATIONIMPACTS THE CLEVELAND COMMUNITYIMPACTS THE CLEVELAND COMMUNITY
“Thank you so much for the gen-erous gifts for the little girl who lost everything in the arson fire. The family was speechless and quite impressed with the outpouring of support, especially from the po-lice. You truly are amazing! Merry Christmas to you, sir!”- Steve: Cleveland Resident
“The Cleveland Police Foundation is a great resource to go to. Over the past 7 years I have needed numerousthings to help families and children… and the ClevelandPolice Foundation always comes through for me, fromdiapers to clothing, to bicycles and books for needyfamilies. This organization is great to go to because I have never been turned awayfor any help I needed. Thank you to the Cleveland Police Foundation!”- P.O. Patty Katynski, #1199
“The Cleveland Police Foundationprovides resources to Cleveland police officers that allow them to reach out to those in need in our community. These resourcesallow officers to take the time to get to know the people they serve, and to put into action true community policing. In the last few years that the Cleveland Police Foundationhas been in existence we have seen just a small example of the compassion of our officers, and the possibilities are endless as we grow and expand with further resources through the donations by the Cleve-land Police Foundation.”
- Captain Keith Sulzer, CPD Community Policing & Liaison to the CPF
“We want to express our heart-felt thanks for paying the phone bills for Society for Nonviolent Change and The Youth Outreach Hotline. If not for those funds, we would have had to shut down a very vital service to the community. In addition, we are extremely grate-ful for the award of funding for the programs which will be a valuable asset to help “bridge the gap” between the Cleveland Police
Department and the residents of the City of Cleveland. These programs will provide a safe haven environment for our youth and assist with prevention and interven-tion measures we need to engage their families and the residents in proactive solutions for the challenges they face on a daily basis.”- Gregory W. Terrell, Executive Director
Society for Nonviolent Change
“I wanted to thank you for bringingmy son a new bike after his Raleighwas stolen. Biking is his only means of getting to and from work, so he was really bummed when it was stolen. He loves the new bike, and we are both grateful for your help. Thank you for doing this for the community. Blessings!”- Josie: Cleveland Resident
“Our thanks to the Cleveland Pol-ice Foundation, Crime Stoppers,Cuyahoga Prosecutors Office, andthe FBI Citizens Academy for making our critical “School Active Shooter Preparedness, Planning, and Response” training possible.” - Tom Armelli, President,
Cleveland Police Museum
“The Cleveland Police Foundation has awakened thecommunity’s awareness of the importance of positiverelations between our citizens and law enforcement. It has provided support, both financial and participa-tory, to The Greater Cleveland Peace Officers Memo-rial Society, the primary mission of which is to honor officers who have given their lives in the line of duty.”- Kathy Delaney, Executive Director,

and provide positive role models who encourage them to stay focused on their education, have respect for others, and become exemplary citizens. wwwclevelandpal.org

who make the ultimate sacrifice, maintaining the Greater Cleveland Peace Officers Memorial, hosting the annual Police Memorial Commemoration, assisting law enforcement agencies with the planning and implementation of full-honors funerals, and its many other programs that help to raise the public awareness of the hazards our police officers face daily. www.policememorialsociety.com

history their members have rendered final honors to more than 75 law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty, and over 25 military personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country. wwwcpdpipesanddrums.org
