Setting up Email

Tap the Settings icon (Gear) Select “Mail, Contacts and Calendars” from the side menu on the left. Choose “Exchange” for type of

account. Type in your email address (CIMS

format, not your firstname.lastname@lansingschools...)

open You should be able to send and receive

email on your iPad If you’re experiencing problems, try

logging on using the web browser (Safari).

Creating an Apple ID

An Apple ID is necessary to download apps to your iPad

You can create an Apple ID without using a credit card

However, if you want to BUY any apps, you will need either an iTunes gift card or a credit card.

Go to the Newsstand App Choose any FREE magazine. Tap on the magazine and follow the prompts to

create a new ID. Remember your password – you will have to

enter this whenever you download new apps. You will need to “verify” your Apple ID. Check

your email. Click on the link to verify your Apple ID.

Once your Apple ID is verified, you are now able to download apps, music, videos, etc. from iTunes and the App store.

1.Tap on the App Store icon

In the Search bar, type “Weather”. This will bring up all the apps related to weather.

Tap the word “Free” next to the App you want to install.

Then, tap “Install.”

You will be prompted to enter your Apple ID password.

Once you enter it, your app will begin downloading.

Once the app has downloaded, you can open it from this screen by tapping “Open”, or you can access it via the Home Screen.

Searching the App Store

You can search the App Store in a variety of ways:› If you know the specific name of an app,

type it in the Search bar.› When you open the App Store, it

automatically shows the “Featured” apps. › You can choose to browse by Category,

and then further limit your search by grade level, content area, etc.

If you know the specific name of an app, you can search for it by typing the name of the app into the search bar.

You can search the App Store by Category.

To find Category, go to the third section in the app store.

Here you can select “Education,” then further refine your search.

Using Safari: Accessing Websites

Type address of website in address bar; enter to navigate to the website.

Share site link via text, email, social media, or add shortcut to the home screen

You can add a bookmark to your favorites page, too.

If you’d like to share a website you’ve found, you have several options:

Tap the box with theArrow pointing up. ThisMenu appears.

You can also save this site to your bookmarks bar, reading list, or make it a shortcut on the Home screen.

You can have more than one window open in Safari.

To open a new tab, click on the + sign at the top

Using Safari: Gestures

To copy text, press and hold down word you want to copy. Choose copy from the pop up menu.

To zoom in and out, pinch two fingers together (to zoom out) and spread apart to zoom in.

Closing, Quitting & Moving Apps

Closing an app keeps it from running in the background.

This helps with battery power and keeps the iPad running smoothly and as quickly as possible.

To close an app, double tap the home button quickly. Any open apps will appear in a list

To close the app, place your finger on the screen and swipe upward.

You can repeat this process for any apps that are currently open.

Deleting an App

To delete an app, place your finger on the app you want to delete.

Hold your finger on the app until they all start “jiggling.”

*Note: You cannot delete “native” apps like Contacts, Calendar, etc.

Once the apps are jiggling, click on the grey ‘x’ in the upper left corner.

Confirm or cancel this action To stop the apps from jiggling, click the

home button.

Moving an App

You can arrange the way your apps appear on the home screen.

Touch an app and hold until it starts jiggling

Move the app to a new place on the home screen.

Let go of the app when it’s where you want it to be.

You can organize apps into folders to organize them.

Touch and hold the “Contacts” App until it jiggles.

Using your finger, move the Contacts App until it overlaps the Clock app.

Now, your Contacts and Clock app are together in a folder

You can accept Apple’s pre-set folder name or rename it by typing in the Folder Name box.

To remove the folder, drag the app out of the box.

Customizing Your iPad

You can make a lot of adjustments to the iPad in the Settings.

Choose Display and Brightness from the left hand menu.

Drag the slider to the right or left to change the brightness of the iPad. Keep “Auto-Brightness” on.

Tap Wallpaper on the left hand side menu.

Select “Choose New Wallpaper”

Select either Dynamic or Stills You can set the “Lock Screen”, “Home

Screen” or both.

You can search for apps quickly by typing the name of the app in the search box.

Requesting Apps

Teacher iPad – Download directly from App Store (paid apps will need a credit card or iTunes gift card)

Classroom iPads: (free OR paid apps)› Identify the name of the App & how many you will

need› Create a Work Order with the Asset tag (starts

with a “G”) from the cart of iPads you want the app on

› Order the App from Apple using the Volume Purchase Program (VPP) website. *See your building principal for login info*
