(INIsPHO)

The observatory aims to support thoseworking to improve health and reduce health inequalities by

• producing and disseminating health intelligence

• strengthening the research and information infrastructure on the island of Ireland

The Observatory’s website contains anumber of key tools and services

• INIsPHO (Online) Library• INIsPHO (Online) Data• All-Ireland electronic Health Library (AIeHL)• Publications• Extranet (to support INIsPHO projects in a secure environment)

All-Ireland electronic Health Library (AIeHL)

Concept• The AIeHL is a network of interoperable

websites across the island of Ireland

• This interoperability means that a website can work with other websites to increase the information resources available to the individual user

• Thus an individual user on one website is able to search all other “interoperable” websites in a single search

How is this possible? Resources within each website have

been classified using metadata elements which have been agreed by all member sites

Metadata are “information about information” and describe key features of a resource e.g Title, Creator, Subject, Description, Date, Type

The metadata elements for each resource within each website are sent daily to a central cache which can then be searched

Phase 1 Phase one of the AIeHL has made

the following websites interoperable

• HSE Irish Health Publications Archive • Healthdata (HSE)• INIsPHO Library (IPH)• National Documentation Centre on

Drug Use (HRB)• Wellnet (IfH, EHSSB)

Wellnet (IfH)

The AIeHL can be accessed from any member website. To access the AIeHL from the INIsPHO website go to the Library section on the Homepage

Within the library you can search just the INIsPHO website, all websites under the Association of Public Health Observatories or all websites within the All-Ireland electronic Health Library

Within the AIeHL you can search using a key word or phrase or using National Public Health Language terms

You can also restrict your search to individual websites or creators

Results of a search will be listed in full and under the type of resource

The results will indicate the name of each resource, the type of each resource and the website within which it is located

Further details are also given describing each resource

Clicking on this button will then take you to the resource on the member website

Do you have information on a website which you would like to be available to a wide range of users?

FOTOCHAT (Online)

Concept

The INIsPHO (Online) Library contains a wide variety of resources, both qualitative and quantitative, about the population’s health and the factors that affect it

Some of these resources have been developed as part of individual collections within the library

One such collection is FOTOCHAT (Online)

FOTOCHAT (Online)

This is a series of photographs taken by Derek Speirs as part of Pavee Point’s FOTOCHAT educational resource

The photographs have been developed into an on-line resource which can be viewed separately or within the INIsPHO library

Structure of FOTOCHAT (Online)

The photographs have been grouped under a framework based upon Dahlgren and Whitehead’s model of the social determinants of health

Clicking above each factor on the model will take you to the resources within FOTOCHAT under this area

You can then access each resource by clicking on it

The resource can then be viewed or printed

Further information is also available about each resource
