A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

I sincerely hope that 2018 is off to a great start for you and your loved ones. At the board level, we are all working hard to make this a great year for our club.

As of our January board meeting I have assumed the role of club President. We needed to make some changes when our Club Treasurer resigned to tend to his young family and hectic travel schedule. I want to take this opportunity to thank Justin Park for his many contributions to our board. The treasurer role is a heavy portfolio and this change left a sizeable hole in our board. Thankfully, Doug Stansbury volunteered. Doug is a talented and capable financial manager in his own private company. Doug holds a Diploma in Public Accountancy and a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting & Finance from McGill University. We are in very good hands in regards to the club’s financial operations. I want to sincerely thank Doug for his leadership and many contributions to our club. Doug has been an excellent President, and we are very lucky that he remains on our board. I know I will be relying on his expertise as I learn my new role.

Thank you to the Nominations Committee for all of their work in facilitating the new roles. We also ratified a new board member at our January meeting. I would like to welcome Cecelia Keller to the board. Cecilia has assumed a Director-at-Large position.

It is with great pleasure and gratitude that I take on the role of club President. For me the Bruce Trail is a treasure in the truest sense of the word. Its very existence has provided me with every kind of wonder, joy and happiness imaginable. I constantly share my love for the trail with family, friends, co-workers and on social media. It is because the Bruce Trail has provided me with so many gifts that I feel I need to give back. I have been a trail monitor, a trail captain, a hike leader and board member. I feel very lucky to work with like-minded passionate and dedicated volunteers. I want to publicly thank our board for their support and tireless efforts. I promise, I will work hard with our talented board to preserve and secure the trail for future generations. I am looking forward to an amazing year. I hope to meet you on the trail!

Cheers,

Michael McDonald

Board Nominations Committee - submitted by Gloria Pennycook

The Iroquoia Board initiated a Nominations Committee about one year ago. The purpose of the Committee is to develop a slate of candidates for the Board to be approved by the membership at the AGM in May. In this process, we hope to identify potential candidates through posting the open positions on our website, as well as the BTC website. In addition, the ongoing applications of volunteers who express interest in leadership are also considered. Potential candidates for open positions are asked to send a short resume and they will also be interviewed by 2 members of the Nominations Committee (NC). The NC will then select the best candidate. The Board may approve new members in between AGMs. The NC will keep an ongoing list of potential candidates even if all positions are filled. A nominations slate will be presented to the Membership 2 weeks prior to the AGM via the website. The final vote will be held at the AGM. If you are interested in a Board position, please complete the Volunteer application on the BTC web site or send me an email directly with your background and interests.

THE “CAMINO”, SPAIN April 28 to May 10, 2018

The Camino de Santiago is an iconic trek covering some 800km across the north of Spain. Our journey encompasses the last 160km from O’Cebreiro to Santiago de Compostela, including

many “extras” in order to make it a complete Galician experience. Thousands of pilgrims have walked before us, and

it is time to add your footsteps to this famous trail.

CANADIAN MARITIMES June 21 to July 3, 2018

Hike & kayak the world's highest tides at the Hopewell Rocks in New Brunswick; meet Anne of Green Gables and build

sandcastles in Prince Edward Island; celebrate Canada Day in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Plus lots more activities from cycling to

hiking, and you could conceivably eat lobster every day of this trip if you tried!

Part of the C.H.H. Adventure Collection.

MACHU PICCHU, PERU September 14 to 26, 2018

Explore the Sacred Valley of the Incas by hiking through the famed salt pans of Maras, the ancient ruins of Pisac, and

trekking high up into the Urubamba mountain range. Then that all important day arrives when we hike into Machu Picchu – rounding the corner of the Sun Gate and seeing Machu Picchu with your own eyes will give you goose bumps!

(Note: This trip does not involve ANY camping – all accommodations are in hotel & lodges.)

NEW ZEALAND November 6 to 25, 2018

This New Zealand trip is a "legend" in our company history and is always regarded as a guest favourite, and we do New

Zealand proud. Enjoy a full itinerary of hiking and sightseeing throughout the North and South Islands, including the Tongariro
