Terminologies of Islamic information and records discipline
• Data • Representation of information in a formalized
manner suitable for communication, interpretation and processing generally by a computer system.
• Raw data refer to unprocessed data.

• Information• Derived from Latin word "informare" which
means: Cognitive representation of data.‑• It is a property of data resulting from or
produced a process performed upon the data.

• Records• Recorded information in a form of document
regardless of form or medium made or received by an organization and that is useful in the operation of the organization. It provides evidence of a business transaction.
• Thus a record is a document with evidentiary value.

generally used by Muhammadans themselves for their religion.
• Literally, it means surrender or reconciliation. It is a religion revealed to Prophet Muhammad between 610 to 632.

Characteristics of Islamic Records
a. Permanence
Islamic records should be permanent. So that, it can be used as evidence. If the records is changed or manipulated in some way, it no longer provides evidence of the transaction it originally documented.

Islamic records are supposed to be authentic in that they document accurately what actually happened.

c. Authority
• Islamic records provide the official evidence of the activity or transaction they document.
• Islamic records must be reliable. The reliability of records is linked to its creation.
• Who issued the records? • Under what authority?
• Can this authority be proved?
• So, signatures, letterheads and office stamps are obvious indicators of the official nature of records.

Islamic records must be maintained in their appropriate context. Islamic records are documents of a single or individual event or transaction that will not be repeated in the same time, at the same place or for the same actions.
