Fun, Food and Carols – so many people to thank!
Thank you to everyone for coming along and being a part of Fun, Food and Carols last week.
We felt that the event was a success and we especially LOVED sitting in air-conditioned comfort
in the hall for the carols! In particular we want to thank Anny Murray for coordinating all of
the stall holders on the night and Janine Brewster for running the cake stall. Thank you to the
Australian Youth Band and Parkhill Student Choir (including Rosie Pryor, Carli Gough and Su-

stalls, cooked sausages, sold icecreams, helped with setup and pack down and much, much
more! A list of our amazing volunteers is included below:

Interview with a Teacher: Victoria Bruges-Cannon
1.When did you know you wanted to become a teacher? I started training as a Further and
Adult educator as I wanted to teach art in Higher Education. However, starting my family
changed my focus. I realised I really wanted to foster curiosity and a passion for learning for
children at a Primary age.
2. What year did you start at Parkhill? -2008
3. What do you like about Inquiry learning? I like the fact that can also develop problem-
solving abilities and develop skills for lifelong learning.
4. What subject do you like teaching the most? That's tricky as a generalist Primary school
Teacher I enjoy teaching across the curriculum and helping students make connections. I don't
see the subjects as discrete. I enjoy ICT and English the most.
5. What are you interests outside of teaching? My family, art and design and architecture.
Year 3 Woodworking Incursion Thursday December 1st 2016
Anyone peeking through the widow of the library last Thursday would have been mistaken for
thinking that Mr. McKinlay had put the Year 3 students to work on the new classrooms for the
master plan.
Not quite correct! The project they were engaged in was the creation of a ‘sustainable house’.
Through this experience the Year 3 students did discover that they were fantastic builders.
They learnt the skills of accurate measurement, sanding and hammering under the wonderful
guidance of Jonathan from ‘Learning by Doing’. The project enabled the students to learn
about sustainability and construction in a very practical way. The incursion was a great success
drawing together learning from our Term 4 Inquiry units: How the World Works –Structures and
Sharing the Planet- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

Specialist Subjects Awards
So many talented students, so difficult to make a decision for just one award!
It is always very difficult to decide on the Specialist Awards, as we have so many wor-
thy candidates and the short list is often quite long! This year, the Specialists have
decided to give individual awards to those students who have achieved excellence in
attitude, effort, behavior and academic performance, giving recognition to all those who excel
in one or more subject areas. These new certificates will be sent home with the student’s re-
port.
Congratulations to those hard working students!
