Psalm 23:1-6

Introduction

• Song followed a tragedy–H.G. lost four children in a shipwreck,

only his wife survived

–Telegraphed him with the news

• Need for scriptural songs–Spiritual songs (Ephesians 5:19)

–Edifying (Colossians 3:16)

• And so, “It is well with my soul”

• Only then can we say, “It is well with my soul”

4.And, Lord, haste the day when the faith shall be sight,The clouds be rolled back as a scroll,The trump shall resound and the Lord shall descend,"Even so" it is well with my soul.

When Christ Returns (v. 4)

• Only true for faithful Christians–No hope outside of Christ

(Ephesians 2:12)

–No anchor for the soul (Hebrews 6:19)

• Love His appearing–Paul did (2 Timothy 4:6-8)

–Abide in Him (1 John 2:28)

–“Even so come, Lord Jesus” (Revelation 22:20)

• Will we say, “It is well with my soul?”
