Major CitiesVenice, Rome, and Florence are major cities in Italy. A long time ago Venice was timeless. Every year Venice has a very famous carnival. Venice is on the northeast coast of Italy. Venice is a city surrounded by water. A lion with wings is the symbol of Venice. Rome is Italy’s capital but it is also Italy’s largest city. Florence is one of Italy’s most popular travel cities. Italy has many different cities but Venice, Rome, and Florence are the most popular cities.

Italy’s Geography
Italy has mountains, islands, seas and its almost surrounded by water. France is next to Italy. There are beautiful mountains in Italy called the Alps. Mount Etnas is 11,000 feet. Greek myths says that a giant that lives in Mount Etnas. Italy consists of a mountain peninsula in southern Europe and the Adriatic sea on the other.

Famous Italians
We are going to talk about famous Italians. Their names are Pope,
Leonardo di Vinci and Alberto Ascari. The Pope is the head of the Catholic
church. When the Pope dies they try to find a new one as fast as
possible .Leonardo was a famous Italian. He was an artist. Leonardo did a
bit of everything. Leonardo made a fresco but never finished it. Alberto
Ascari was a race car driver.

Italian History
Italy is a very old country . Gladiators used to fight against wild animals until one or the other died in the Coliseum. In the Coliseum they kept wild animals in there. Italy was governed under the liberal constitution adopted by Sardinia. A volcano erupted in Pompeii 21,000 years ago. Italy has had a lot of interesting history because it is so old.

We learned a lot of interesting facts about Italy. The Italy flag has red, white ,and green stripes. Italian children start school when they are six years old. Italian children go to school six days a week. That means they go to school on Saturday. Ferraris are made in Italy. Ferraris are very expensive sports cars. Italy is a very interesting country. It is kind of like the U.S.A. but different in many ways.

Italian SportsWe learned a lot about Italian sports. One part we learned about is the Olympics. The 2006 winter Olympics were in Italy. There were 85 countries participating in the Olympics. Italians like to play and watch soccer. Italians play the same sports we play in America like tennis, soccer, and basketball. In Italy, there are bicycle races almost every weekend. Many children learn to ski in Italy. Many Italians enjoy skiing.

Foods of ItalyThere are a lot of foods in Italy that are different. In Italy for breakfast they drink Cappuccinos and they eat croissants. Cheese and tomatoes is the famous pasta. In Italy there is a spaghetti festival. They like to eat something called spumetti in Italy. Zucchini in a agrodolce is a sweet and sour zucchini. Chocolate Ganauche is a chocolate truffle. A struffolii is a honey ball. Large meals in Italy consist of many courses. Cakes is the most popular dessert in Italy. There a lot of foods in Italy but the most popular foods are cake and pasta.
