Pewter Spoons Spoons were commonly
made of wood, horn, silver or gold until the early 14th century, when the development of pewter made spoons affordable to the general public.
Hundreds of tons of pewter products were shipped to America during the Colonial period.
Powder Horn
A powder horn would have carried gun powder. This container was often made from buffalo horn.
Fish Hooks
Fishhooks were essential to the fur trader. A trapper or trader could be out in the wilderness for an extended period of time and provide himself with fish.
Flint
Pieces of flint are part of what made guns work.
When flint and steel are struck together, sparks are generated.
Knives Metal knives were
a valued trade items. This knife has a rounded tip designed for taking the skin off animals.
Hudson Bay Company Blankets
Blankets made of wool became a trade- mark of the fur trade era.
Blankets were often worn as robes or shawls for added warmth.
Worms A gun worm was
used to clean the barrel. The worm is nothing more than one or two twisted tines which can be threaded onto the barrel.
