August 27, 2014
Dear Parents,
Happy New Year! We are starting the 20th
year of Jacksonville Elementary and it
surely will be an exciting one.
Since the summer mailing we have had one staffing change. Mrs. Michelle
Caudill and her family were transferred out of state. We wish her and her family well.
We welcome Ms. Stacey Grill to third grade. Ms. Grill had substituted at Jacksonville last
year.
The Raptor sign in system is in full swing again this year. Upon entering school
for any reason, we request you immediately report to the office. You will need a license
to be scanned on your first visit. A badge will be printed. Please display the badge the
entire time you are in the building. Upon leaving, report to the office so the secretaries
may sign you out. Upon subsequent visits you will still need to obtain a badge but your
license should not have to be scanned.
As stated in the summer mailing, take a moment to complete the online volunteer
training at home. After you have located the Volunteer training link on the right side of
the Community/Volunteer page, there are 3 parts that you will need to complete:
Orientation video (16 minutes), BCPS Volunteer Handbook, and Quiz. Upon completion
of all sections a link at the top will congratulate you on your completion and will have a
hyperlink to print the certificate. Baltimore County requires both the certificate and
completed volunteer application prior to assisting in any capacity in any school. If you
have any questions, please contact the school office or principal.
Focused on Quality Committed to Excellence
Among the many items your child(ren) will be bringing home in the next few
weeks is the BCPS Student Handbook. Please take time with your child to review the
handbook. Also, please sign the acknowledgement form in the back of the handbook and
return it to school within 5 days of receiving it. Thank you in advance.
The update Jacksonville Parent-Student Handbook may be accessed on the school
internet site: http://jacksonvillees.bcps.org. Information in this handbook is specific to
our school. It includes drop-off/pick-up procedures, dress code, and food parameters, to
name a few.
New this year will be a contract your child will sign regarding cafeteria
expectations. We are implementing a new cafeteria program to eliminate wasted time
between lunches in the intermediate grades. We also are thrilled we will have all bench
style tables in the cafeteria by mid-September. (Thank you, PTA!) This will create a
much safer environment for our students.
Mark your calendar for Back to School Night next Tuesday, September 2.
Review the flier below. It provides times and locations. Remember however, if you only
have one child at Jacksonville plan on attending the second session after the PTA and
general meeting. The first session is for parents who have more than one child at school.
At the general meeting you will hear about the new BCPS One grade book and how you
will be able to access the information.
Thank you ahead of time for all your support and assistance during this upcoming
20th
year.
Sincerely,
Debbie Glinowiecki

August 27, 2014
Dear Parents and Students:
Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS) is implementing a One-card identification system for
all students and staff. During the first semester all students will be issued a One-card that is
coordinated with our school colors in a holder with a safety lanyard. Elementary level students
will keep their one-cards in school (during this initial phase. Middle and high school students
will be responsible for wearing their cards on a daily basis and will take them home at the end of
each day. The One-card identification system is one more step in improving security for students
and staff.
The One-card not only identifies who belongs in the school, but also has many other functions.
It will be used by students for checking out library materials, and, in the near future, the
identification card will be used to take students' attendance at schools that currently do not have
this function (high schools-late in the first quarter, middle schools-second quarter, and
elementary schools -second semester). Also in the future, students will use their One-card to
record when getting on and off of the school bus.
The One-card will help to improve students' safety and accountability in BCPS. One-card
student identification cards are the property of the school. If a student loses or misplaces his or
her One-card, a permanent replacement card will be issued for a fee of $5. If the student does
not have the replacement fee at the time the replacement card is provided, an obligation for the
replacement amount of $5 will be issued. Students who do not bring their One-card to school
will be charged $1 for a temporary replacement card for that day only. Obligations should be
settled quarterly.
All students and staff are required to wear their One-card at all times unless there is a safety
issue, such as during recess and physical education class. This is not an optional program.
Please remind students to wear their identification cards daily. If there are any questions please
contact me, 410-887-7880.
Sincerely,
Debbie Glinowiecki

FROM THE PRESIDENTAugust 27, 2014
Dear JES Families,
Welcome back to school and Jacksonville Elementary’s 20th year of excellence in education! We especially welcome our new students, staff, and families to our community! We hope to see you at our September 2nd PTA meeting on Back to School Night and at our October 10th Anniversary Celebration.
Many thanks to all of you who have already sent in your: • PTA Membership dues and Student Directory info,• PTA Jet Fuel donations, and• BCPS volunteer application and online training form.
Great news: there’s still time for the rest of us to do so!
In this newsletter, please see our very long list of volunteer opportunities with something to suit every schedule and talent. Please let us know you may like to help – we especially need these now:
• Resource Room Coordinator, • Twitter Coordinator, and • Green School’s Cafeteria Recycling Coordinator.
Our volunteers (parents, guardians, grandparents, community members, and others) make a tremendous difference at JES, donating thousands of service hours and demonstrating the importance of education to our students.
Our JES PTA Jet Fuel donation request is also enclosed. With a goal of $20,000, the JES PTA Jet Fuel direct donation campaign is the primary source of PTA funds this year. Your tax-deductible donation will help our students soar!
Whether you can volunteer one hour this year or one hundred… whether you donate five dollars or fifty…whether you offer fun ideas or serious questions…every family’s participation is essential, appreciated and makes such a positive impact at JES.
On behalf of the PTA Board, thank you very much! We look forward to working with you and our JES students and staff this year!
Sincerely,Whitney Leber, PTA President
