Want land? A lot of land?

A so-called recreational ranch thatspreads across more than 4,000 acres inDeSoto County is on the market for $26million. Located east of North Port, offKing’s Highway, the BR Ranch featurestwo houses, two horse barns, a workingarena/rodeo pen, equipment barns, storage sheds and dog kennels.

Why the “recreational” label?

The ranch has been chiefly managed forwildlife and recreation to take advantageof the hunting and fishingopportunities, what with Osceola turkey, deer, and wild hog, and wild andreleased quail, two natural ponds forducks and other migratory waterfowl;year-round green- and blue-winged teal;and a host of other ponds offering whatthe Realtors promise is “great fishing.”

Palm and oak hammocks, cypress, pines, palmettos, flatwoods, sawgrass marshesand cabbage palms complete the setting.

The seller is Naples developer MichaelBoran.

“The Borans were major players in thegrowth of South Florida for decades,”said Jon Kohler of Jon Kohler andAssociates, the brokerage listing theproperty. “They could have picked a hostof ranches to entertain their clients. They picked the best.”

The 2,900-square-foot Cypress Lodgeand the 3,037-square-foot Ranch Housewill accommodate plenty of hunting andfishing guests.

But this is a working property, too, withincome potential.

“BR Ranch was actually just listed abouteight weeks ago and the excitementaround it has exploded,” Jeri Madden,Kohler’s marketing manager, told methis week. The listing has garnered 4,140page views on the company website and42,000 views of the property videothrough social media.

To date, the Panhandle-based specialtybrokerage, which markets plantation, ranch and recreational land to high-net-

worth individuals, has had two showingswith two prospects “that have beenvetted to the highest degree,” Maddensaid. “We are very selective about whowe show these properties to.”

The working portion of the BR Ranchincludes around 1,900 acres of grass andfields for cattle; another 1,100 acres of“improved pasture” planted in Bahia,

Bermuda and Hermathia grasses, and800 acres of laser-leveled fields with anirrigation system, with about 300 ofthose acres leased at $500 per acre.

In the past, the crops grown thereincluded tomato, watermelon, variousvegetables, hay and sod. No reason theycan’t again.
