July 2014 Issue 3
Serving our homes, schools and communities in New Mexico, Arizona, and El Paso!
It’s July, which means that
it is not only deathly hot
outside, but that school is
just around the corner.
Take the remainder of this
month to fully prepare
yourself for the school year
– plan service projects,
prepare your first meeting,
and even take a nap! This
year, the Southwest will not
only be trying new things,
but also improving the old
projects and events!
Remember, as a district,
we are in this together – so
let’s make this year the
best one!
Your Friend in Service,
Riley Jandrew
Southwest District Governor

CONVENTION All service is special. Whether you’re donating toys around the holidays to those
less fortunate or even picking up garbage on the highway, it all makes a
difference, even if you see it or not, in your community and in your life.
You don’t have to be serving with your Key Club to make a difference, so this
summer, go out and serve on your own with these projects!
Volunteer at your local
food/clothing bank or
humane society.
As all of you know,
service never stops! If you
cannot get your club
together, doing simple
things like these are great
ways to help the
community.
Make ELIMINATE
boxes.
Making ELIMINATE
and placing them in
local businesses (with
permission) around
town is an easy way
to get the word on
MNT spread!
Sign up to read to
children at your local
library.
Children look up to us!
Show the children in
your community how
much we appreciate
them – and even tell
them about K-Kids!
Send out Thank You
cards to the members of
your Kiwanis Club.
Let your local Kiwanis
club know how thankful
you are of them. They
truly do so much for your
club, so give back to
them with a subtle
gesture.
Volunteer at a local
retirement or
nursing home.
The elderly love
company! Show
them we care by
simply hanging out
with them.
Start a school supply
drive for needy
children in your area.
School supplies are
important, but
children are even
more important.
Anything helps those
less fortunate!

International Convention was in Anaheim, CA this year with over 2000
Key Clubbers present – 57 students and chaperones attended from
the Southwest. We elected the new International Board, voted on
amendments, and even found time for Disneyland.
Here is the recap, straight from #KCCA14!

Huge congratulations to
Jenalee Beazley for
being honored with the
Distinguished Governor’s
Award and for being
elected trustee! The
Southwest District is so
proud of you and your
accomplishments!
Amendment 1 was passed: A district is now defined as at least 15 active
Key Clubs and at least 450 active Key Club members.
Amendment 2 was passed: Honorary Members will not pay any dues but
will not receive any privilege of a Key Club Member.
Amendment 3 was passed: Fifty cents of our dues will NOT be put into the
Youth Opportunities Fund as we have enough in our reserve to work off the
interest.
Amendment 4 had an amendment to the amendment: The International
dues were increased by 50 cents, thus now the international dues are $7.00.
Amendment 5 was not passed: the amendment went through an amendment
on amendment, which stated that "Members may only hold elected office at
district and international level of Key Club International for a maximum of four
years." This amendment on amendment was defeated. The amendment itself
was also defeated.
. Amendment 6 was passed: Membership is guaranteed for the duration of
one's secondary institution education system. (Ex. If a student attends a
school with 6 grades in High School, they will be eligible to be a Key Club
Member and be guaranteed all privileges of a Key Club member)
Club Spotlight We are so excited for
Sedona Red Rock – they
attended their first
convention ever this year,
and we can’t wait to see
them at DCON.
Welcome to our Key Club family, Sedona!
