SCHOOL HOURS
PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Dear Parents,
It seems like such a short while ago that school began for the 2016-17 school year, yet here we are almost ten months later...and it is already June. This month marks a chapter in the History of Holy Redeemer C.S.
Perhaps some of our parents were once students at Holy Redeemer or, perhaps your children were the first generation to attend the school. Holy Redeemer has been a school unlike any other.
Our students will remember the kind staff that greeted them each morning as they came through the door; the parent council groups that gave their time to enrich their child’s experience within the school.
They will above all remember the friends that they made. Holy Redeemer is a school where children of all ages played with one another, where there were no boundaries or lines to divide age groups in the playground. It has been a school where children learned how to ski, sledded and played soccer in the field.
Holy Redeemer is an oasis of nature and serenity where nature fostered creative play and a new Science experiment was a mere steps out the back of the school. Our children roamed free in the field and knew everyone in the building by name and also took care of one another. Holy Redeemer is a community with deep ties and a strong sense of family. This is how we will remember the beauty that is our school.
Over the next four weeks we have many events that will continue to join us as a community. Please feel free to visit the school over the course of the month.
See you soon!

Memories from the hearts of Holy Redeemer students…
The best moments of Holy Redeemer is...my friends and the people in the school who helped me and I love the people who play soccer with me and the community that they have and what the school gave us. And I like that there’s no bullying and no fighting and I want to say thank you to our old Principal for what he did to us...Cailan D.
My favourite Holy Redeemer memory is Hallowe’en and the Christmas concert tied. I can’t choose. I liked Hallowe’en because of all the treats, competition and prizes. I couldn’t resist saying I like Hallowe’en as much as the Christmas concert. I chose the concert because of all the fun we had laughing and speaking our parts and making our audience laugh. These two events are my favour-ite Holy Redeemer memories...Luther M.
My favourite Holy Redeemer Memory is the play day because we get freezies and popsicles
and we get prizes. My second Holy Redeemer memory is playing with all my friends. My
third Holy Redeemer memory is having movie night because I get to hang out with my
friends and we get popcorn...Marco C.
Last year was my first year in Miss. Weiss’ class full time. I was mesmerized at how much the word “community” means in this classroom. Day after day, month after month and situation after situation our class still came together as one.
On the last day of school last year, I was so glad I could spend an amazing year with a different view of the word, “community”, because Holy Redeemer is all about a family coming together...Aiskel Morales Marti Gr. 8
My favorite memory of H.R is when me and my four closest friends at recess went outside and made downhill soccer a popular “thing” at this school. Every lunch recess we would go down-hill with the whole school to play soccer.
This points out how unique we are as a close community because Gr.1-8 would never be seen playing in the same game at any other school...Emanuel Hernandez Gr.8

School Cashless Online Payment Coming to all TCDSB Schools
The Board of Trustees have approved the implementation of new system for cashless online payment of
school-related activities, goods and services across the TCDSB. Once the program is fully imple-
mented by February 2018, all parents, staff and students will have the option to make secure pay-
ments online by credit card and receive a receipt.
The new online payment system provides the following benefits:
• A convenient fee payment option that saves time
• Reduces paper
• Student safety - no more need to send cash or cheques to school
• A quick and easy to register. (It takes less than 5 minutes)
The Board is currently “Beta testing” the new cashless online payment application in selected TCDSB
schools. More details and information regarding when the payment system will be introduced in our
school will be provided to parents as soon as it is available.
Year of the Parish
Capping off the Year of the Parish, and Catholic Education Week, the Toronto Catholic District School
celebrated Parish Family Day on Friday, May 5th. This culminating celebration featured a Mass of cele-
bration, and a showcase of student artwork, written work (poetry and stories), original music and video
tributes that spoke to the special bonds that have developed between our school communities and their
parishes, pastors, sisters and others in their parish community.
The Board now looks forward to bringing together the Family, Parish and School as we
launch the Year of the School starting September 2017, and we continue to build on the sol-
id foundation that we have succeeded in creating together. http://archive.isiglobal.ca/vod/tcdsb/

2017 Canada Day Celebrations
With the celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday, this Canada Day is truly extra special. As we have
done in the past, schools are encouraged to celebrate Canada Day a few days early by joining in
our red and white spirit day on June 29th, and gathering as a school community to sing the na-
tional anthem together at 9:30 a.m.
TCDSB is in the process of creating a commemorative CD featuring 10 renditions of our national an-
them as performed by TCDSB students. To view the more than 50 submissions from schools
across the board, see: https://www.tcdsb.org/affiliates/Canada150/VideoContent/Pages/Music-
Video-Submissions.aspx
Students who have an artistic flair are invited to consider submitting a CD cover de-
sign by no later than June 16, 2017. Get all the details online here: https://www.tcdsb.org/
affiliates/Canada150/VideoContent/Pages/CD-Cover-Design.aspx
Secondary School Admissions Policy Changes
Thank you to everyone who participate in the consultation regarding the proposed changes to the high
school admissions policy. The online survey has now closed. A report will go before the Board in June
2017.
Know Anyone Seeking Employment with TCDSB?
The Toronto Catholic District School Board is currently hiring for secretarial and custodial posi-
tions. For more information regarding hiring procedures, please refer to the following link: http://

Interested in Parent Involvement?
Want to Help Others Become More Engaged in Catholic Education?
The Toronto Catholic Parent Involvement Committee is a provincially mandated and funded committee,
which supports student achievement through increased parent involvement. Members of CPIC work lo-
cally within their own wards, and also provide information and advice on parent engagement to the
school board. The committee strategizes and plans initiatives and events that promote and facilitate par-
ent engagement, and helps parents to support their children’s learning at home and/or at school. Toronto
CPIC members are volunteer parents/guardians, who bring forward information and ideas from their
own wards, and relay important decisions and important information from the central table back to the
parents in their area.
If this sounds of interest, consider running for election in the fall of 2017.
Don’t have the time to serve on a committee? Consider nominating someone for the committee, and re-
member to come out and vote for your CPIC representative. Visit www.tcdsb.org soon for detailed elec-
tion information.
