Marketing at Waterloo

At London Waterloo Jurassic World took over with large props as part of a publicity campaign in England. This helped to raise awareness of the film in London to a different audience then possibly available on social media. The set up at London waterloo is just one example of the great marketing campaign that accompanied Jurassic World.

Online Presence

-Jurassic World had and still has a huge online presence thanks to the marketing team.

-Jurassic World had a website which advertised the park as if it actually existed keeping you up to date on the weather and how to plan your trip to Jurassic World.

-The Jurassic World marketing team also had a large presence on social media keeping people up to date on instagram facebook and twitter.

-LadBible also promoted Jurassic World weather or not this was a paid stunt is still unknown. This target the main film going audience who are most active on social media.

Merchandise

Jurassic World created their own line of merchandise and marketed it as if it was being sold from the ‘real Jurassic World’ on the island as it is located on the park's website.

When people were searching for the merchandise it also promoted the park and everything else that was available from the site.

Also you can see all of the merchandise being sold in the movie at the Jurassic World gift shops.

Pre-production

The idea of Jurassic world came about in 2002 when Ayse Myhre decided to produce Jurassic Park IV. However after several re-scripts the idea faded. The idea wasn’t revisited until 2010 when Universal started up the JP IV project. In 2011 a photo was released showing a shooting schedule. The film was now in production. The first trailer was released on the 25th of November.

Release Date

Jurassic Park was released on 16th July 1993 and grossed over 1.03 billion us dollars which was the most successful of the jurassic series.

The following two films ‘The Lost World’ and ‘Jurassic Park 3’ didn’t make as much money, some of that was down to the release date.

So with ‘Jurassic World’ they decided to release it on 16th July 2014 and it made more than the other two films.

Also the release date coincided perfectly with school holidays.

Posters

This poster was one of the first posters to be released as it sparked excitement because it shows that the film takes place on the original Jurassic Park island unlike the other sequels.

(Mainly computer based however close up practical effects are still used and still create further depths to the productions)

Issues raised1. The overuse of CGI - many critics raised the issue of miss and overuse of CGI. The film relies

heavily on the use of CGI to create the look of the dinosaurs and many other effects in the film. Jurassic park lovers said that this took away the originality of I, II and III making the film look too tech related.

2. The missed potential - 90% of critics agreed that the film had a lot more potential than what was achieved. To quote some said ‘it just seemed too familiar’.

3. Many questions were left un-answered - Lots of viewers and reporters had noticed many odd features about the film and when asking questions were refused as an answer. One of the best is ‘why was there not an evac procedure?’

Box Office

Jurassic World set new record for the biggest opening weekend only to be beaten by Star Wars very recently.

Jurassic World is still the 4th highest grossing film ever despite having been out for less than a year.

Thanks for watching!
