2018-2019 School Calendar
From the Superintendent
On behalf of our staff, I would
like to welcome everyone back
for another school year! Our
team has worked diligently to
prepare for the students to return
on a full-time basis. When the
children come to school they will
be greeted by several new faces
and some faces that have
returned to us! Our schools have been recognized
for achieving student growth at levels that exceed
most districts in the State of Michigan and we
believe we are poised for our best year ever! With
the help and support of our community we are
confident that we can collaborate with all of you to
continue the tradition of continued improvement. It
is a monumental task to assist our children in
achieving their maximum potential. Parental and
community participation will prove even more
critical as we look to improve. If you are willing
and able to assist us in our goal of delivering
comprehensive and challenging learning
experiences to ALL students, please do not hesitate
to contact us to become involved.
We developed several measures to enhance our
facilities. Our school(s) and campus received
several new roof sections, concrete improvements,
entry systems, paint, restroom remodeling (more to
come during the school year), boilers, dugouts for
baseball/softball and all new drinking fountains
among other improvements this summer. This year
we will also move from utilizing well water to
consuming our water from the municipal water
system. We would like to thank the PTO and the
Lions Club for assisting in improving our
playgrounds! The teaching and administrative staff
participated in more professional development this
summer than any other I can recall in preparation
for being in the best position possible to serve our
children and community. One area that we are also
striving to constantly improve would be in the arena
of student safety and security. As such, visitors
during the school day will find that they must be
buzzed in by our staff. Please know that we are still
very welcoming and we depend on your support and
involvement to prepare our students to become
productive and responsible members of society.
Our team feels humbled and honored to serve this
community and we are going to push ourselves to
give our best to our students! Go Owls! --Scott Moore, Ph.D., Ed.S., MPA

FREE Breakfast and Lunch for ALL
Oscoda Students We are pleased to inform you that for the 2018-19
school year Oscoda Area Schools is participating in
an option available to eligible schools through the
National School Lunch and School Breakfast
Program called Community Eligibility Provision
(CEP). The GREAT NEWS is that ALL
STUDENTS enrolled in our school district are
eligible to receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at
school at NO CHARGE. However, in order for the
district to benefit from various State and Federal
grants and supplemental funding, it is
IMPERATIVE that every household fill out, sign,
and return a Household Information Survey. This
survey is for administrative purposes only and the
information is kept confidential. You will find the
Household Information Survey in your welcome
back packet or in your child’s school. A filled out
Household Information Survey will be your
family’s ticket to a free meal during Open House. If
you cannot attend Open House, please send the
completed form with your child the first day of
school. Breakfast is served every day school is in
session at OHS from 7:30 a.m. until 8:00 a.m. in the
commons area, and at RES from 7:40 a.m. until
8:00 a.m. in the cafeteria.
District Notes
fr
Please note that there have been changes made on certain routes. As we continually evaluate the needs of our students and community, it is often necessary to make changes to our bus routes. Please be patient with us, quite often additional adjustments are necessary once school starts. The pick-up times listed are approximate, so remember to be at your stop five (5) minutes early. Our goal is to support student learning by providing safe and reliable transportation for all of our students.
Have you moved or made new child care arrangements? Please report any changes that will affect your child’s pick-up or take home location to the Transportation Department at 739-2024 by September 1st, or as soon as you can. With your help, we can get the new school year off to a good start! We look forward to another great year.

Transportation Safety Tips
While on the bus
Go directly to a seat, if assigned seats sit there. Remain seated and facing forward for the entire ride. Talk quietly
(so the driver will not be distracted). If you need to talk to the bus driver: wait for the bus to stop, raise your
hand, and call the driver's name. There will be no eating on the buses unless the driver allows it, ask for permission
first. Throw any trash you have away, when it’s safe to do so. Never throw things on the bus or out the windows.
Never play with the emergency exits. If there is an emergency, listen to the driver and follow instructions.

Master Michael Munyon is an internationally recognized
7th Degree Black Belt with nearly 40 years of
training. This program offers students the ability to learn:
Self-Defense, Korean History and Customs, Fitness,
Character Building/Goal Setting, International rank
recognition and more. The goal is to help build every
student's physical, mental, social and spiritual fitness
through the teachings found in Tae Kwon-Do. We believe
in the Tenets of Tae Kwon-Do (Courtesy, Integrity,
Perseverance, Self-Control and Indomitable Spirit). Classes
will be held at RES on Mondays and Wednesdays from
4:30-5:30 p.m. beginning September 5th. The fee is $50 per
month. Call 739-1431 to register. For more information,
email Master Munyon at munyonselfdefense@yahoo.com.
High Point Kid’s Club
K-6 students at RES are invited to join HighPoint Kid’s
Club sponsored by Oscoda Community Education. Five
week sessions are held throughout the school year on
Mondays at RES from 3:00-4:30 p.m. Instead of boarding
the bus after school on Mondays, children will check in at
the RES cafeteria to receive their HighPoint Passport and
“take off” on a character building adventure. A boarding
pass will go home each week for parents to encourage their
child to “live the point.” The program is staffed by
volunteers from several local churches. The first session
meets on Mondays from October 2 through October 30,
2017. Kids will “travel” to Egypt where they will learn
self-esteem. A $5 registration fee includes all snacks and
craft materials. For more information call 739-1431.
