Khin’s story

Khin lives in Thailand. You live in Australia. Some things are the same. Some are different.
Do you love to learn? Khin does. She lives in Ranong, Thailand – very close to her own country, Burma. Khin and her family came to Thailand to escape poverty and violence in Burma and because they wanted a better life.
Lots of children in the world do not have the chance to go to school. There were no schools for families like Khin’s. So Caritas and their friends in Thailand set up special learning centres.
Just like mums and dads across the world, Khin’s parents know that school is very important. Just like parents across the world, they are proud that their daughter loves to learn.
Just like you, the children have books and uniforms. They all feel very proud of themselves.
Just like parents in Australia, Khin’s community helps with the school. Parents and teachers work together to decide the best ways to make the school even better.
Khin has great plans. “I want to be a teacher when I grow up,” she says. Even though she is the smallest in her class she listens and speaks up. She tries her very best. She always has a smile. Just like you.
When you give to Project Compassion, you, Caritas Australia and Khin are working together to build a better world.
