Kimberley Abbott spoke about how innovation can spring from the most unlikely sources when people are engaged in the communities around them. In her case, Kimberley founded a social business “Roka” after a visit to India. “Roka” aims to break the cycle of poverty through economic empowerment of women & education. Kimberley will be discussing how engaging young people and engaging the women of Maranahalli Bande in India has been the key to success in founding an award winning business that is changing lives. At 24, Kimberley has already established a reputation as a young leader, entrepreneur, and inspirational changemaker. Kimberley has been named on the 2013 Westpac and Financial Review’s list of Australia’s 100 Women of Influence, the NSW 2014 Young Woman of the Year finalist, and was named Young Australian Citizen of the Year 2012 by Kiama council. Kimberley completed a B Engineering(Hons)/B Science at the University of Wollongong, and co-founded and ran the successful ‘Yes WE(women Engineers) can!’ girls in engineering program. She currently works fulltime as an engineer, and is acting CEO of Roka.
