New collaboration opportunities promote research

The new laboratory will have a comprehensive research infrastructure and a large number of scientists from various subjects and disciplines

It improves interaction across disciplinary borders, enables new collaboration opportunities and promotes research

Skyway to the Karolinska University Hospital facilitates collaboration with clinical research

Departments moving to Biomedicum

Microbiology, tumor and cell biology (MTC)Head of Department: Marie Arsenian Henriksson

Medical biochemistry and biophysiology (MBB) Head of Department: Ernest Arenas

Physiology and pharmacology (FyFa)  Head of Department: Stefan Eriksson

Neuroscience (Neuro) Head of Department: Sandra Ceccatelli

Cell and molecular biology (CMB) Head of Department: Christer Höög

Biomedicum – more than a building

A catalyst for groundbreaking biomedical science aiming at improving human health

Rationale for Biomedicum

Need of expansion in order to meet the growth of the departments

Renewal of old and outdated laboratories

Collect groups thematically, to improve integration and collaboration

Improve the usage of expensive equipment and core facilities

Improve collaboration with Karolinska University Hospital and translational research

Coordinate and reinforce our efforts in education

Improve our administration by adopting standards and best practice

Increase visibility at national and international level

Attract new recruitments

Strengthen Karolinska Institutet and Sweden as an international leading force in health, medical science and education

Our vision for Biomedicum: A catalyst for groundbreaking biomedical science aiming at improving human health

The vision is based on three pillars:

A center for world class science and cutting edge technology aiming at solving fundamental biomedical questions and improving human health

A platform that facilitate interactions, collaborations and the sharing of experiences, ideas and technologies across scientific borders

A rich and dynamic scientific environment with a flexible organisation and a cost-effective administration

Our goals for Biomedicum

To perform groundbreaking science leading to fundamental discoveries and to improved human health

To be an inspirational global research landmark, base for international recruitment of both young and senior elite scientists

To reinforce and improve clinical translation and interactions both at national and international level

To be a reference research center for undergraduate, doctoral and postdoctoral education

To translate scientific findings into practical applications and innovations and hence contribute to economic growth

To strengthen Karolinska Institutet and Sweden as an international leading force in health, medical education and science
