CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: Let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us.
People: Establish the work of our hands.
Leader: In love and grace,
People: Establish the work of our hands.
Leader: In justice and truth,
People: Walking in the way of Christ.
HYMN #401 Gather Us In
UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Patient Creator God, we come confessing that all too often our
fear has outweighed our love. Looking out for ourselves, we’ve
forsaken the truth of our interconnectedness. Our outlook on
Your world has been one of scarcity and not gracious abundance.
Hearing words of hate and violence, we have remained far too
silent. We have failed to see Christ in our neighbor. Have mercy
on us O Lord. Spirit, from the pained, fearful and broken parts of
our hearts, hear our prayer…….(time for us to offer silent prayers
of confession.)
ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Pastor: Friends, believe the good news of the gospel.
People: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven.
RESPONSE #582 Glory to God Whose Goodness Shines on Me
APOSTLES’ CREED (please stand if able)
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord, who was conceived by
the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius
Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried; He descended into hell;
the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into
heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I
believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic church, the
communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of
the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
MOMENT FOR CHILDREN AND PASSING THE PEACE
PASTORAL PRAYER AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
……….Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in
heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our
debts, as we forgive our debtors, and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil, for Thine is the kingdom, and the power
and the glory forever, Amen.
OFFERTORY Offertory John Ness Beck
With what shall I come before the LORD, and bow myself before
God on high? Shall I come before Him with burnt offerings.
Shall I come before Him with yearling calves?
Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten
thousand of rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my
transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?
He hath shown you, O people. He hath shown you what is good.
And what does the LORD require of you, but to do justice, and to
love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?
DOXOLOGY (please stand if able)
Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Praise Him all
creatures here below. Praise Him above ye heavenly hosts.
Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.
UNISON PRAYER OF DEDICATION
Abundant God, bless these gifts to the purposes of Your
kingdom. Through the ministries of this church, may they serve
as a means of doing justice, loving mercy and walking humbly
alongside our neighbors both near and far. Amen.
SCRIPTURE LESSON Romans 13: 8-14
Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for the one who
loves another has fulfilled the law. The commandments, “You
shall not commit adultery; You shall not murder; You shall not
steal; You shall not covet”; and any other commandment, are
summed up in this word, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love
does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore, love is the fulfilling of the
law.
Besides this, you know what time it is, how it is now the moment
for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than
when we became believers; the night is far gone, the day is near.
Let us then lay aside the works of darkness and put on the armor
of light; let us live honorably as in the day, not in reveling and
drunkenness, not in debauchery and licentiousness, not in
quarreling and jealousy. Instead, put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and
make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.
Pastor: The Word of the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God.
