Please be sure students eat breakfast each day. Lack of breakfast usually results in headaches, stomach pains & nausea, dizziness, inability to concentrate, and frequent visits to the office Health Room. Quick & nutritious breakfasts are offered at all Gladstone Schools. From pancakes & sausages to breakfast sandwiches, oatmeal, & yogurt, a variety of whole grain & low fat options are offered. All meals are served with fruit & milk. Students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch all get breakfast & lunch for free. The breakfast price for other middle school students is $1.50.

Intramural Boys Basketball
Intramural boys’ basketball begins Monday, November 28th. No experience is necessary! All 6th, 7th, and 8th grade boys welcome! Registration will begin the week of November 14th. The registration and sports physical forms will be available at the Kraxberger office.
The season will be six weeks long with games or practices generally four afternoons a week. There are no intramural activities on Wednesdays. Practices run from 3:15 to 4:30 and games may be either 3:30 to 4:15 or 4:15 to 5:00. Students are responsible for their own transportation home.
A registration form must be turned in to the office prior to participation in practices or games. The fee is $50.00. Each player must have a district sports physical form completed and on file in the Kraxberger office prior to participation in games. Sports physicals are good for two years from the time the physical is performed. If you have any questions please contact Shaun Southmayd in the Kraxberger office, 503-655-3636, option 2.

KRAXBERGER TO ADD NEW FITNESS CLUBS
Students at Kraxberger Middle School can choose from three new after school fitness clubs, thanks to a grant funding provided by the Nike Community Impact Fund. The new co-ed clubs include fitness boxing, soccer, and wrestling.
“We surveyed students about their interests, and these were the most popular choices,” said Vice Principal, Lori Buchanan. “Besides providing exercise and teaching new skills, the new clubs will give students connections to teacher mentors and opportunities for new friendships.”

KRAXBERGER ROBOTICS TEAM WINS GRANT
The Kraxberger Gearheads Robotics Team won a $1,440 grant from Daimler Trucks North America. The funds will support the Gladstone middle school’s two teams in regional competitions.
“Our program teaches kids tech skills from welding and 3-D printing to computer programming and electrical wiring,” said mentor Shawn Price. “Along the way, they also learn teamwork, community service, marketing, fundraising, and technology recycling.”

GRANT SUPPORTS 6th GRADE OUTDOOR SCHOOL
For 37 years, Gladstone 6th graders have attended Outdoor School, a coming-of-age experience that for many is their first camp experience. Now, thanks to an $18,000 grant from the Gray Family Foundation, that tradition will continue.
Students from Kraxberger Middle School attend a week of Outdoor School at the Twin Rocks Friends Camp in Rockaway, Oregon. There they learn about lake, beach, and forest ecosystems, and the importance of sustainability.
“Of course, it isn’t just environmental science,” explains teacher Patti Bisenius. “We also work in art, Oregon history, skits, and camp songs. Most Gladstone graduates remember it as one of the highlights of their school years.”
The 2016-2017 Annual Notice for Statewide Tests is available now on the school and district websites. The annual exempt form will be posted when it becomes available by the Oregon Department of Education.

Twice per month, a council member will meet with the public at the library. This report card describes learning at KraxbergerMiddle School. Our school works hard to meet the fullspectrum of student needs, from academics, creativity, andafter school activities to socialemotional development.
Kraxberger uses a collegereadiness system calledAVID: Advancement Via Individual Determination. Studentslearn Cornell Note Taking, keeping an organized binder,leadership skills, and how to participate in SocraticSeminars. The goal is academic success in middle school,high school, and college.
This year we will offer new elective choices, bothfullyear and part year. All sixth graders will take music,AVID, Chinese, and physical education. Grades 7 and 8can choose band, art, choir, building things, creatingcomics, Chinese, or media, as well as 7th grade AVID or8th grade Spanish.

This report card from the Oregon Department of Educationdescribes learning in Gladstone Schools, where Growing GreatPeople is our goal.
In Gladstone, we build a strong foundation for our youngestlearners through a hub of family support services at the GladstoneCenter for Children & Families. Kindergarten readiness and strongreading skills by third grade are a focus.
We provide technology experiences across all grade levels,from kindergarten iPads to the high school robotics program. AtGladstone High, we offer many opportunities to earn college credit,and continually work to increase our graduation rate, one of thebest in the state.
This year we plan to expand our Confucius Classroom programby adding Year 2 Mandarin classes at Gladstone High, Chineseclasses at Kraxberger Middle School, and after school Chinese
clubs at both sites.
Kraxberger Middle School's AVID college readiness system willhelp students be better prepared for the rigors of high school andcollege learning. At the elementary level, we continue to developour Culture of Care, providing a safe, inclusive learningenvironment that benefits each child.
Gladstone is known for innovation. In any given week, you willfind state and regional education leaders touring our district toexplore new school initiatives. We are a nationally recognizedGreen Ribbon School, thanks to a number of sustainable practicesand education opportunities.

STUDENT WELLNESS POLICY Gladstone School District policy recognizes that healthy eating and physical activity are essential for studentsto achieve their academic potential, full physical and mental growth, and lifelong health and wellbeing.
The District's nutrition program is consistent with federal requirements, emphasizing lowfat, lowsugar, wholegrain, nutritious meals.
Physical activity at school includes physical education at every level, and opportunities to exercise throughrecess, intramural activities, and school sports programs.
