Botteled water is available at 15 Rupees (US 33 cents)per Litre but not affordable by most villagers.

Running water, when available is often not treated to

be safe drinking water, and contains unacceptable levelsof fluoride, iron, arsenic, etc.

Reverse Osmosis water treatment and desalinationplants are an effective and economic solutions

Rotary Clubs in India installed hundreds of RO plantsand handed over to villages. Sustainable supply becamea problem due to operation and maintenance issues

Our Trust brought awareness of the importance ofclean drinking water among the villages.

As a result, many villages now have RO plants, somepaid the seed money themselves, others donated byindividuals. Other NRIs supported several other plants

There are many villages who can not afford to getstarted i.e provide infrastructure and seed money.

Service Above Self is a very popular and powerful motto.

  • 7/31/2019 Lacha Goud Satyamma Memula Trust-Ankapoor Village-Rotary Presentation-June 7 12-Trivalley

    40/40

Its importance is not understood as well as it should be. During my recent visits to India, I was

questioned by many, both immediate family and friends: why I was spending so much money for the

benefit of people that I do not even know. Why cannot you just give it to us?

One cannot provide a convincing answer to those who cannot see the needs beyond their own.

Service Above Self is absolutely the right thing to do. We should all be inspired and motivated

by what some of the worlds eminent and famous people had to say.

I will read few of them today.

I expect to pass through life but once. If therefore, there be any kindness I can show,

or any good thing I can do to any fellow being, let me do it now, and not defer or neglect

it, as I shall not pass this way again. ~William Penn

The purpose of life is not to be happy - but to matter, to be productive, to be useful, to

have it make some difference that you have lived at all. ~Leo Rosten

What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others and

the world remains and is immortal. ~Albert Pike

We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give. ~Winston

    Churchill

The best way to find yourself, is to lose yourself in the service of others. ~Mohandas

    Gandhi

Who knows about Service better thanMother Teresa who said:

If you can't feed a hundred people, then feed just one.

Never worry about numbers. Help one person at a time, and always start with the

    person nearest you.

Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth. ~Mohammed Ali
