Why we chose this book: Language is similar to current language in the field, so it will make it easier for you to discuss with your cooperating teacher. Dedicates an entire chapter to reading and writing. Underlying theme is Understanding by Design. **As you read, you will find a few grammatical errors and typos. They should not effect understanding, but if you have any questions, please let me know.

Instructional objectives are statements of what students will know and be able to do at the end of the lesson or unit of instruction. They describe the learning outcomes for students that the lesson is designed to produce. Once objectives have been created, any activities that will help students achieve those objectives can be said to be the “right activities. Without objectives, you can’t know whether or not your activities are appropriate.

Objectives are determined through formal and informal assessment. Additional assessments must be used to determine if students have mastered the objectives. Student learning plans should be redesigned/revised as necessary according to assessment outcomes when compared to expected outcomes.
