Role of the Code

• Mandatory Standards provide statewide baseline

• Voluntary Standards can be adopted by local jurisdictions– Tier 1– Tier 2

• Provide standardized requirements across jurisdictions

Planning and Design

• Storm water drainage and retention• Erosion and sediment control• Bicycle parking– Short term– Long term

• Special parking• Light control

Energy Efficiency

• Minimum standards for all buildings• Title 24, Part 6– Additional efficiency requirements– Increase commissioning

Water Efficiency

• Efficient indoor use– Shower and sink fixtures– Toilets

• Efficient outdoor use– Irrigation controllers– Water budget for landscaping

Material Conservation

• Joints and openings• Construction material diversion and recycling• Building maintenance and operation• Moisture/mold management

Environmental Quality

• Fireplaces• Duct sealing• HVAC system• Bathroom fans• Healthy materials

Voluntary Tiers

• Additional standards adopted by jurisdictions• Provide pathway for more comprehensive

requirements• Standardize green building programs

Implementation Difficulties

• Some measures difficult to verify or enforce• Coordination existing Green Building

• Statewide Energy Efficiency Program• Whole home and building upgrade incentives• Financing– Subsidized (small scale residential)– PACE (non-residential)
