Adequate&preparation'has'been'a'dedicated'pursuit'of'mine'since'Junior'year'
of'undergrad'at'the'University'of'Washington.'At'that'time,'amidst'the'push'and'pull'
of'a'college'careerwith'internships,'maintaining'a'job,'and'the'need'to'meet'
course'requirementsI'desperately'needed'an'administrative'assistant.'Though'I'
was'accustomed'to'juggling'many'different'hats'or'positions,'at'times'my'plate'
became'too'full'and'I'feared'buckling'under'the'pressure.''
Unable'to'turn'to'no'one'but'myself,'I'looked'for'an'organizing'and'planning'
system'to'help'manage'my'many'tasks.'Scouring'the'internet'for'anything'that'
would'do,'I'stumbled'upon'a'Goal'Setting'workbook.'Modifying'the'suggestions'from'
that'Workbook,'I'began'my'goaling'process'by'outlining,'handwritten,'the'tasks'
needed'to'reach'each'goal'in'turn.'As'example'of'the'goal'setting'attempt,'Appendix'
A'is'a'defunct'$10,000'in'Savings'goal;'at'the'time,'though'my'visions'of'the'future'
were'limitless,'I'nonetheless'believed'that'adequate'preparation'was'the'key'to'
managing'my'life.''
Appendix'B'(Learn'conversational'Japanese)'and'Appendix'C'(Become'a'
Good'Cook)'are'subsequent'developments'of'my'goal'process.'Each'more'
developed'than'the'last,'my'goaling'process'became'the&way'I'approached'large'

the'evident'concept'of'time.'Just'as'the'scope'of'planning'and'preparation'are'within'
ones'control,'timing'is'ultimately'out'of'ones'control'entirely.'The'entrance'of'
randomness'or'entire'loss'of'control,'illuminates'the'requirement'of'patience'and'
diligence'in'order'to'reach'success.'It'is'the'relationship'of'knowing'the'appropriate'
time'together'with'being'adequately'prepared'when'that'time'arises'that'reveals'
opportunities'for'success.'My'goaling'processdelineated'in'Appendix'Fis'my'

vertebrae'had'not'dislodged,'slicing'the'spinal'cord'like'a'scissor'was'nothing'short'

legal'reality'of'the'car'accident'set'in.'The'accident,'in'short,'was'my'fault.'As'result,'I'
was'charged'with'a'Felony.'This'charge'has'inspired'all'actions'since,'superseded'
only'by'the'impetus'of'my'idea'of'success.'In'tandem'with'my'goal'process,'these'
inspirations'delivered'on'the'restoration'of'my'rightsstripped'when'receiving'
Felon'status'in'this'societythrough'concerted'effort'manifested'as'perseverance'
and'planning.''

labeled,'Restore'the'Right'to'Vote'was'incessantly'in'my'goal'binder.'The'right'to'
vote'is'not'granted'to'convicted'Felons,'so'I'waited.'As'years'passed,'I'worked'on'
other'goals'and'the'Restore'goal'quietly'remained'untouched.'Though,'
occasionally,'I'would'attach'various'printouts'and'materials'(Appendices'I'&'J)'that'I'
collected'since'the'legal'fallout:'brochures'and'flyers'on'Washington'state'legislation'
and'procedures;'American'Civil'Liberties'Union'of'Washington'state'(ACLU)'
materials'on'Voter'Restoration,'etc.;'I'never'actually'activated'the'goal.'
' Then,'having'successfully'completed'all'aspects'of'my'supervision'(Appendix'
K),'I'inquired'to'the'ACLU'about'the'prospects'of'restoring'my'right'to'vote'by'both'

was'even'slimmer.'Then,'I'thought'in'panic,'have'I'run'up'against'a'wall?'Summing'
up'confidence'in'my'own'ability,'I'made'the'decision:'Ill'represent'myself.'
Using'my'then'well'honed'skills'of'negotiating'the'Superior'Court'ClerkI'
was'a'legal'assistant'at'a'law'firm'from'2007'to'2008'that'often'required'I'visit'the'
Court'Clerk'for'forms'or'assistanceI'activated'my'goal'process'and'set'out'to'
restore'my'right'to'vote:'I'carefully'outlined'times'to'study'and'locate'this'new'
legislation'(Appendix'N),'defined'resources'to'help'me'along'the'way,'and'heavily'
relied'on'my'legal'preparation'skills'for'generating'working'papers'(Appendix'
O)preparing'the'documents'the'judge'will'view'personallythat'I'had'practiced'
so'many'times'for'clients;'but'now,'was'for'my'own'benefit.'
And,'I'succeeded.'On'March'16,'2010,'I'was'issued'a'Certificate'of'Discharge'
from'Judge'Deborah'Fleck,'my'former'sentencing'Judge.'Impressed'by'my'boldness'
to'represent'myself'under'newly'enacted'legislation'ESHB'1002,'Judge'Flex'was'
supportive'and'asked'that'I'keep'in'touch'every'now'and'then.'To'this'day,'Ive'
heeded'that'order.''
The'formal'Certificate'and'Order'of'Discharge'is'now'filed'and'available'for'
public'record'(Appendix'P).'As'a'note,'the'issuance'of'a'passport'(Appendix'E)'is'
also'a'right'revoked'when'convicted'of'a'Felony.'The'unfilled'Get'a'Passport'goal'
(Appendix'D)'was'more'a'reflection'of'the'reality'that,'I'am'a'Felon.'I'cannot'
realistically'get'a'Passport'than'the'inability'to'conceptualize'completing'the'goal.'
At'that'point'in'my'life,'the'goal'title'was'more'of'a'lofty'wish'than'a'realistic'
possibility'(the'same'could'be'said'for'Appendix'A,'but'I'digress).'But,'when'I'
