This is the moment an adorable baby orangutan took his first tentative steps into the art of climbing and swinging through the trees.

Pictures show a mother encouraging her baby with kisses and cuddles before patiently holding him while he attempted to clamber through the dense jungle in Borneo.

'This baby was the cutest and the smallest of them all and had a very expressive face. His mom was teaching him how to live in the jungle which means being very strong and able to hold onto the trees as they live high up.'

Pictures captured the moment an adorable baby orangutan took his first tentative steps into the art of climbing and swinging through the trees.

The mother encourages her baby with kisses and cuddles before patiently holding him while he attempts to clamber through the dense jungle in Borneo.

In the swing of it: The baby orangutan soon got the hang of it as he swooped from branch to branch in a jungle in Borneo.

A job well done: The mother orangutan gave her son a pat on the head after he showed off his ability to swing through the trees.

The baby then gets a cuddle and a kiss as a reward for all his hard work.

Russian wildlife photographer Julia Sundkova, 36, captured the images while she was on a visit to Borneo.

Getting the hang of it: The tiny orangutan proved a fast learner as he started to leap from tree to tree - just like his mother.

Adorable: Julia Sundkova said she saw a number of baby orangutan but that 'this baby was the cutest and the smallest of them all'.

Hanging tough: The baby orangutan could be seen clambering up a tree under the experienced and watchful eye of his mother.

The photographer said that the baby's mother 'was teaching him how to live in the jungle which means being able to hold onto the trees as they live high up'
