ਆਪੇ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਬਹਾਲੈ ਆਪੇ ਤਿਿਾ ਕਰਾਿੈ ॥

He Himself calls and seats the congregation, and He Himself bids them goodbye.

Have we set the environment to meet God.

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੂਆ ਤਿਨੁ ਨ ਤਿਕੈ ਬਹ ੁਰੰਗੀ ਿਹ ਿਹ ਤਿਤਸ ਚਤਲ ਚਤਲ ਹਾਢੇ ॥

This mind does not hold still, even for an instant. Distracted by all sorts of distractions, it wanders around aimlessly in the ten directions.

ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਿਡਭਾਗੀ ਹਤਰ ਮੰਿੁ ਿੀਆ ਮਨੁ ਠਾਢੇ ॥੧॥ I have found the Perfect Guru, through great good fortune; He has given me the Mantra of the Lord's Name, and my mind has become quiet and tranquil. ||1||

Japna is not to be done in Ego.

How do you Jap in Ego?

Waheguru makes you Jap.

ਜਬ ਲਗ ੁਜਾਨੈ ਮੁਝ ਿ ੇਕਛੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

As long as someone thinks that he is the one who acts,

ਿਬ ਇਸ ਕਉ ਸੁਿੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥

he shall have no peace.

ਆਤਪ ਜਪਾਏ ਜਪੈ ਸੋ ਨਾਉ ॥

Those, whom He makes to chant, chant His Name.

ਆਤਪ ਗਾਿਾਏ ਸੁ ਹਤਰ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਉ ॥

Those, whom He inspires to sing, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord

Wearing costumes and Chanting for Maya.

ਤਚਿੇ ਤਜਨ ਕੇ ਕਪੜੇ ਮੈਲੇ ਤਚਿ ਕਠੋਰ ਜੀਉ ॥ Those who wear white clothes, but have filthy and stone-hearted minds,

ਤਿਨ ਮੁਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਊਪਜੈ ਿੂਜੈ ਤਿਆਪੇ ਚੋਰ ਜੀਉ ॥ They do not chant the Lord's Name with their mouths and are engrossed in duality; they are thieves.

ਮੂਲੁ ਨ ਬੂਝਤਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੇ ਪਸੂਆ ਸੇ ਢੋਰ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥ They do not understand their own roots; they are beasts. They are just animals! ||3||

ਮਨ ਰੇ ਗਤਹਓ ਨ ਗੁਰ ਉਪਿੇਸੁ ॥ O mind, you have not accepted the Guru's Teachings. ਕਹਾ ਭਇਓ ਜਉ ਮੂਡੁ ਮਡੁਾਇਓ ਭਗਿਉ ਕੀਨੋ ਭੇਸੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ What is the use of shaving your head, and wearing saffron robes? ||1||Pause|| ਸਾਚ ਛਾਤਡ ਕੈ ਝੂਠਹ ਲਾਤਗਓ ਜਨਮੁ ਅਕਾਰਥੁ ਿੋਇਓ ॥ Abandoning Truth, you cling to falsehood; your life is uselessly wasting away. ਕਤਰ ਪਰਪੰਚ ਉਿਰ ਤਨਜ ਪੋਤਿਓ ਪਸੁ ਕੀ ਤਨਆਈ ਸੋਇਓ ॥੧॥ Practicing hypocrisy, you fill your belly, and then sleep like an animal. ||1|| ਰਾਮ ਭਜਨ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਹਾਤਥ ਤਬਕਾਨਾ ॥ You do not know the Way of the Lord's meditation; you have sold yourself into Maya's hands. ਉਰਤਝ ਰਤਹਓ ਤਬਤਿਅਨ ਸੰਤਗ ਬਉਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਨੁ ਤਬਸਰਾਨਾ ॥੨॥ The madman remains entangled in vice and corruption; he has forgotten the jewel of the Naam. ||2||

People pretend to do bhagti.

ਹੰਸਾ ਤਿਤਚ ਬਠੈਾ ਬਗੁ ਨ ਬਣਈ ਤਨਿ ਬਠੈਾ ਮਛੀ ਨੋ ਿਾਰ ਲਾਿੈ ॥ Sitting among the swans, the crane does not become one of them; sitting there, he keeps staring at the fish. ਜਾ ਹੰਸ ਸਭਾ ਿੀਚਾਰੁ ਕਤਰ ਿੇਿਤਨ ਿਾ ਬਗਾ ਨਾਤਲ ਜੋੜੁ ਕਿੇ ਨ ਆਿੈ ॥ And when the gathering of swans looks and sees, they realize that they can never form an alliance with the crane. ਹੰਸਾ ਹੀਰਾ ਮਿੋੀ ਚੁਗਣਾ ਬਗੁ ਡਡਾ ਭਾਲਣ ਜਾਿੈ ॥ The swans peck at the diamonds and pearls, while the crane chases after frogs. ਉਡਤਰਆ ਿੇਚਾਰਾ ਬਗੁਲਾ ਮਿੁ ਹੋਿੈ ਮੰਞੁ ਲਿਾਿੈ ॥ The poor crane flies away, so that his secret will not be exposed.

ਤਸਿ ਹੰਸ ਸਰਿਤਰ ਇਕਠੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਹੁਕਮਾਿੈ ॥

The Sikh-swans gather at the lake, according to the Will of the True Guru

ਿਾਇਤਨ ਚੇਲੇ ਨਚਤਨ ਗੁਰ ॥ The disciples play the music, and the gurus dance.

ਪੈਰ ਹਲਾਇਤਨ ਫੇਰਤਨਹਹ ਤਸਰ ॥ They move their feet and roll their heads.

ਉਤਡ ਉਤਡ ਰਾਿਾ ਝਾਿੈ ਪਾਇ ॥ The dust flies and falls upon their hair.

ਿੇਿੈ ਲੋਕੁ ਹਸੈ ਘਤਰ ਜਾਇ ॥ Beholding them, the people laugh, and then go home.

ਰੋਿੀਆ ਕਾਰਤਣ ਪੂਰਤਹ ਿਾਲ ॥ They beat the drums for the sake of bread.

Waheguru brought you here but what did you find.

ਿੀਰਤਥ ਜਾਉ ਿ ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਿੇ ॥

Journeying to sacred shrines of pilgrimage, I see the mortals acting in ego.

ਪੰਤਡਿ ਪੂਛਉ ਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਰਾਿੇ ॥੧॥

If I ask the Pandits, I find them tainted by Maya. ||1|

People are religious hypocrites they behave one way in private another way in public.

ਪਕਤਰ ਜੀਉ ਆਤਨਆ ਿੇਹ ਤਬਨਾਸੀ ਮਾਿੀ ਕਉ ਤਬਸਤਮਤਲ ਕੀਆ ॥

You seize a living creature, and then bring it home and kill its body; you have killed only the clay.

ਜੋਤਿ ਸਰੂਪ ਅਨਾਹਿ ਲਾਗੀ ਕਹੁ ਹਲਾਲੁ ਤਕਆ ਕੀਆ ॥੨॥ The light of the soul passes into another form. So tell me, what have you killed? ||2||

ਤਕਆ ਉਜੂ ਪਾਕੁ ਕੀਆ ਮੁਹੁ ਧੋਇਆ ਤਕਆ ਮਸੀਤਿ ਤਸਰੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥ Why do you bother to wash your face? And why do you bother to bow your head in the mosque?

ਜਉ ਤਿਲ ਮਤਹ ਕਪਿੁ ਤਨਿਾਜ ਗੁਜਾਰਹੁ ਤਕਆ ਹਜ ਕਾਬੈ ਜਾਇਆ ॥੩॥ Your heart is full of hypocrisy; what good are your prayers or your pilgrimage to Mecca? ||3||

A Sikh/a saint never takes money to share knowledge of Guru Granth Sahib.

ਮਨ ਕੇ ਅੰਧੇ ਆਤਪ ਨ ਬੂਝਹੁ ਕਾਤਹ ਬੁਝਾਿਹੁ ਭਾਈ ॥ You are blind in your mind, and do not understand your own self; how can you make others understand, O brother?

ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾਰਨ ਤਬਤਿਆ ਬੇਚਹੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਅਤਬਰਥਾ ਜਾਈ ॥੩॥ For the sake of Maya and money, you sell knowledge; your life is totally worthless. ||3||

Waheguru gives the Knowledge, do not believe its yours.

ਅਸੰਿੁ ਅਨਾੜੀ ਕਿੇ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ॥ The unsaintly blockhead shall never understand.

ਕਥਨੀ ਕਰੇ ਿੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਤਲ ਲੂਝੈ ॥ He babbles on and on, but he is infatuated with Maya.

ਅੰਧੁ ਅਤਗਆਨੀ ਕਿੇ ਨ ਸੀਝੈ ॥੨॥ Blind and ignorant, he shall never be reformed. ||2||

Don’t give up keep walking the path.

ਕਬੀਰ ਸੰਿੁ ਨ ਛਾਡੈ ਸੰਿਈ ਜਉ ਕੋਤਿਕ ਤਮਲਤਹ ਅਸੰਿ ॥ Kabeer, the Saint does not forsake his Saintly nature, even though he meets with millions of evil-doers.

ਮਤਲਆਗਰੁ ਭੁਯੰਗਮ ਬੇਤਢਓ ਿ ਸੀਿਲਿਾ ਨ ਿਜੰਿ ॥੧੭੪॥ Even when sandalwood is surrounded by snakes, it does not give up its cooling fragrance. ||174||

If you want to preach you have to be fearless, to be fearless you must have naam.

ਪੰਤਡਿ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਅਨਭੈ ਰਹੈ ॥ One who is a Pandit, a religious scholar, must remain fearless.

Remember Guru Nanak and the Investment he made in the sangat.

Blessed to give dasvandh, blessed to do garaai, blessed to do seva but to serve sangat; not take or live off sangat.

ਤਗਆਨ ਤਿਹੂਣਾ ਗਾਿੈ ਗੀਿ ॥ The one who lacks spiritual wisdom sings religious songs. ਭਿੁੇ ਮੁਲਾਂ ਘਰੇ ਮਸੀਤਿ ॥ The hungry Mullah turns his home into a mosque. ਮਿਿੂ ਹੋਇ ਕੈ ਕੰਨ ਪੜਾਏ ॥ The lazy unemployed has his ears pierced to look like a Yogi. ਫਕਰੁ ਕਰੇ ਹਰੋੁ ਜਾਤਿ ਗਿਾਏ ॥ Someone else becomes a pan-handler, and loses his social status. ਗੁਰੁ ਪੀਰੁ ਸਿਾਏ ਮੰਗਣ ਜਾਇ ॥ One who calls himself a guru or a spiritual teacher, while he goes around begging ਿਾ ਕੈ ਮੂਤਲ ਨ ਲਗੀਐ ਪਾਇ ॥ - don't ever touch his feet. ਘਾਤਲ ਿਾਇ ਤਕਛੁ ਹਥਹੁ ਿੇਇ ॥ One who works for what he eats, and gives some of what he has ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਹੁ ਪਛਾਣਤਹ ਸੇਇ ॥੧॥ - O Nanak, he knows the Path. ||1||

Let’s walk the path of Love by learning how the Saints live.

ਆਉ ਸਿੀ ਗੁਣ ਕਾਮਣ ਕਰੀਹਾ ਜੀਉ ॥ Come, O friends - let's make virtue our charms.

ਤਮਤਲ ਸੰਿ ਜਨਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਾਤਣਹ ਰਲੀਆ ਜੀਉ ॥ Let's join the Saints, and enjoy the pleasure of the Lord's Love.

ਗੁਰ ਿੀਪਕੁ ਤਗਆਨੁ ਸਿਾ ਮਤਨ ਬਲੀਆ ਜੀਉ ॥ The lamp of the Guru's spiritual wisdom burns steadily in my mind.

ਹਤਰ ਿੁਠੈ ਢੁਤਲ ਢੁਤਲ ਤਮਲੀਆ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥ The Lord, being pleased and moved by pity, has led me to meet Him. ||1||
