CASE STUDY

SS-1 Site Selection

CASE STUDY

Heat Island Effect Reduction

WE-1 Water Use Reduction

CASE STUDY

Intent: Limit or eliminate the use of potable water for landscaping Maximum water efficiency within tenant spaces to reduce the burden on

municipal water supply Requirements: Reduce plumbing use based on tenant occupancy by 20% No potable water use or irrigation Install landscaping that does not require irrigation

WE-1 Water Use Reduction

CASE STUDY

EA-1.1-1.3 Energy & Atmosphere

CASE STUDY

Intent: Achieve increasing levels of energy performance in two primary ways: by

reducing the amount of energy required, and by using more benign forms The better the energy performance, lower the operations costs Requirements:  Choose one of three options to document energy savings

Achieve a minimum of 15% (1 point) to a maximum of 35% (3 points) reduced lighting power

Install daylight responsive controls to achieve increased conservation Increase HVAC efficiency of 15% (1point) to maximum of 30% (2

points) better than standards

EA-1.1-1.3 Energy & Atmosphere

CASE STUDY

MR-1.2-1.3 Building Reuse

CASE STUDY

Intent: Extend the life cycle of existing building stock, conserve resources Reduce waste & reduce environmental impact of new buildings Requirements:  Maintain at least 40% of existing non-structure components  Strategies:  Identify and maintain as many of the existing interior elements as possible,

during design and construction

MR-1.2-1.3 Building Reuse

CASE STUDY

MR-2.1-2.2 Resource Reuse, 30% Furniture & Furnishings

CASE STUDY

Intent Reuse products and furnishings to reduce demand for virgin materials Requirements:  Choose salvaged, refurbished or reused materials for at least 5% up to a

maximum of 30%  Strategies:  Identify opportunities to salvage and reuse products and furniture into

project design including system furniture, seating and filing systems

MR-4.1-4.2 Recycled Content

CASE STUDY

Intent Increase demand for building products that incorporate recycled content  Requirements:  Use finishes and materials with recycled content such that the sum of post

consumer recycled content + ½ of the pre-consumer content constitutes a min 10% of the total material value.

Strategies:  Set project goals for recycled content materials, identify suppliers Ensure compliance during construction

MR-4.1-4.2 Recycled Content

CASE STUDY

MR-5.1 Regional Materials

CASE STUDY

Intent Increase demand for building products that are extracted and manufactured

within the region, thereby supporting the regional economy and reducing environmental impact from transportation

Requirements: Use a minimum of 20% of construction materials and furnishings that are

manufactured regionally within a radius of 500 miles.

Strategies:   Set project goals for regional materials, identify suppliers

MR-5.1 Regional Materials

CASE STUDY

EQ-3.1 Construction IAQ Management Plan

CASE STUDY

Intent Prevent indoor air quality problems resulting from construction/ renovation

process; sustain the comfort and wellbeing of occupants. Requirements:  Develop & implement an Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Management Plan for the

construction and pre-occupancy phases of the tenant spaces Exceed the design guidelines by (SMACNA) Use filtration to control air supply during construction, MERV 8 or higher Strategies:  Adopt the IAQ management plan during construction Sequence the installation of absorptive materials, such as insulation,

carpeting, ceiling tile and gypsum board to avoid contamination

EQ-4.1-4.2-4.3 Low Emitting Materials, Adhesives & Sealants, Paints & Coatings & Carpet Systems

CASE STUDY

Intent Reduce the quality of indoor air contaminations that are odorous and harmful to the

comfort and wellbeing of installers and occupants Requirements:  All adhesives and sealants used in the building interior must not exceed the VOC

content limit of: Adhesives, Sealants and Sealant Primers: Rule #1168 by South Coast Air

Quality Management District Aerosol Adhesives: Green Seal Standard GC-36 Paints: Must meet the limitations and restrictions concerning chemical

components set by Green Seal Standards & (SCAQMD) Carpet & Pad: Meet or exceed Carpet & Rug Institutes testing.

Strategies:  Specify Low VOC materials, sealants and paint Review product cut sheets, MSD sheets during submittal review

EQ-4.1-4.2-4.3 Low Emitting Materials, Adhesives & Sealants, Paints & Coatings & Carpet Systems

CASE STUDY

ID-1 Innovation in Design

CASE STUDY

Intent Provide design teams and projects the opportunity to be awarded points for

exceptional performance above LEED in Green Building categories Requirements:  Provide innovation credit intent, compliance and submittals to demonstrate

the design approach and strategies

LEED Accredited Professional

CASE STUDY

Intent Support and encourage the design integration required by a LEED Green

Building project and streamline the application process Requirements:  One principal participant of the project team has successfully completed the

LEED professional Accreditation Exam.
