On an emotionally joyous day in November, Adam Leonard, 34 of Marshfield, and his daughter Ava, 2, received the dream of an accessible, affordable home. Marshfield Area Habitat for Humanity (MAHFH) dedicated the home in a ceremony held on November 9.
Adam was critically injured in an automobile accident in 2012 and became confined to a wheelchair. As his residence became increasingly difficult to live in, MAHFH built a ramp for him to access his front door; however, he could no longer access the upstairs or basement of his home. MAHFH partnered with Adam to build his new home that would be accessible to him and eliminate the barriers that existed in his former home.
Construction on the home, which began in spring 2013, involved many Marshfield area volunteers and organizations throughout the summer. MAHFH wishes to thank the following businesses and volunteers for their time, talents and resources in building this handicapped accessible home at an affordable cost.

SHELTER,
SELF-RESPECT and
HOPE for a better life.
Marshfield Area Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit Christian housing ministry seeking to eliminate poverty housing and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. Habitat is not a give-away program. Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates homes along side our partner families.
Donations are used to purchase building materials, land, appliances and other supplies needed to build a home. At no profit to Habitat, we give partner families a non-interest mortgage to make monthly payments on.
In addition to making a down payment and monthly mortgage payments, homeowner families invest hundreds of hours of their own labor in “sweat equity” building their house. This labor reduces the cost of the home, increases pride of ownership and fosters the development of positive relationships.
Since being founded in 1996, MAHFH has built 16 quality and affordable houses, and has celebrated the dream of home ownership with 18 families. MAHFH has also completed several smaller projects to make existing homes more livable.
