Li-Fi can be thought of as a light-based Wi-Fi. It uses light instead of radio waves to transmit information.

Instead of Wi-Fi modems, Li-Fi would use transceiver-fitted LED lamps that can light a room as well as transmit and receive information.

It is transmission of data through illumination ,i.e. sending data through a LED light bulb that varies in intensity faster than human eye can follow.

Present Wireless Communication

Radio Spectrum is congested but the demand for wireless data double each year. Everything, it seems want to use wireless data but the capacity is drying up.

Less bandwidth compared to other spectrums

ISSUES REGARDING RADIO-SPECTRUM

Receiving elements are “AVALANCHE PHOTO DIODE” and image sensor.

Avalanche photo diode is responsible for converting the light signal into electrical signal and further the procedure is carried out by image sensor.

Gama Rays

Gama rays cant be used as they could be dangerous.

X-rays have similar health issues.

Ultraviolet light is good for place without people, but other wise dangerous for the human body.

Infrared, due to eye safety regulation, can only be used with low power.

HENCE WE LEFT WITH THE ONLY THE VISIBLE – LIGHT SPECTRUM.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TECHNOLOGIES

2.Hospitals(In few medical instruments)

3.In vehicles and traffic lights , reducing accidents and traffic

congestion

4.Street lamps(as free access points)

5.In Aircraft cabins

You cannot dim the lights. VLC is unidirectional (downlink or

broadcast only). There will be interference from

sunlight. You must have line-of-sight. VLC is a complex technology.

These signals cannot penetrate walls.

If you want to move from one room to another, you will need to have a wired bulb present in that room.!!
