WELCOME TO…G. BAGATTA HIGH SCHOOL!!!

AND WELCOME TO…DESENZANO!!!

Our town faces the Southern coast of lake Garda, that is

famous all over the world among

sailors and windsurfers and

every year attracts lots of tourists with its

beautiful landscapes.

Desenzano has origins that date back to the Roman times, but it developed during the Middle Ages. Today you can visit the

ancient Roman villa, famous for its beautiful mosaics,

and the medieval castle that overlooks the town centre.

Nowadays Desenzano has a population of 28000 inhabitants and, during the summer, it rises to 40000, including tourists. The G. Bagatta high school has a privileged position in the historical centre of Desenzano.

Our school is one of the most ancient schools in Italy. It was founded as a gymnasium in 1792, when an assembly of the heads of the mostimportant families

decided to create

a structure around the

most learned people in Desenzano

in order to spread culture and progress in the "new generation".

The headmaster was don Girolamo Bagatta, who improved our school adding a boarding

school and, three years later, the lyceum forms.

In 1816 emperor Francis I upgraded our school to the

level of the royal senior high schools in the Asburgic

empire. In the following years the royal high school in

Desenzano became more and more important and the Italian poet Giosuè Carducci

choose to take part to the national exam as evaluator in

our school for four years.

In the 1990s our school grew up with two new sections: the

scientific section and the

languages section.

Finally in 2003 the human

sciences section was added.

Nowadays in the school there are 46 classes and 1007 students. When you enter our

school you can choose in what

section you want to study, among

our four sections

SCIENTIFIC SECTION

This section looks back to the past, with the study of ancient Greek and Latin

languages and Literature

CLASSIC SECTION

Principal Subjects: Italian, Greek, Latin,

English, History, Philosophy, Art History.

LANGUAGES SECTION

Prepares you to have international relationships by studying foreign languages like English, German

and French.

HUMAN SCIENCES SECTION

It gives a humanistic education through the study

of social sciences.

Principal subjects: Spanish, Law and Economy, Human Sciences, Social Sciences,

Philosophy.

Besides the compulsory subjects our school has created several

optional projects in order to promote the school also as a place in which you

can meet and improve your culture from a wider point of view.

For those who are interested in learning foreign languages such as English, Spanish, German and French there is the opportunity to attend our workshops held by mother tongue teachers at different levels.

The students who like Maths and Symbolic Logic can

enrol in a tournament called Maths Olympic Games

in which participants have to face problems that

differ from the ones we usually find in our Maths

programmes.

An important activity of our school is the classic theatre workshop in which every year we rewrite and adapt a classic piece for the stage. A Literature teacher coordinates this project with the assistance of a professional director. A classic piece is studied in order to write a modern script and design a screenplay that will be staged.

As far as sports are concerned we usually compete with athletes from other schools. Liceo G. Bagatta offers its students a wide choice of activities such as championships among neighbouring schools. Our school organizes football, volleyball and basketball matches, athletics, ski and cross country, swimming contests and it is in close contacts with various state institutions.

A group of our schoolmates regularly participates in sailing competitions. The most recent one was the famous non competitive

regatta called “Veleggiata sul Canal Grande” in Venice.

Our school has a Chemistry lab, a multimedia

languages lab, two inner gyms, an open air

basketball field and a library

We are connected to a European schools' network, with which our institution organizes cultural exchanges for the different sections: this is a very good way todevelop the European's sense of belonging.

Our town is twinned with some European cities including Freising-Monaco, Wiener Neustadt,

Amberg and Antibes

In our school the class register and the teachers' register are electronic and online.

In this way our families are able to control our

attendances, our marks and immediately know what is

going on in each hour.
