THE SURVEY ACTIVITY WILL CONSIST OF THE SPADE DIGGING OF AT LEAST 75 MINIPITS, WHICH WILL BE DESCRIBED UP TO 0.5 M AND FURTHER MANUALLY-AUGERED UP TO 1.5 M FROM THE SURFACE. AT LEAST TWO SAMPLE FOR EACH SITE WILL BE TAKEN: ONE FOR TOPSOIL (MINIPIT) AND ONE FOR SUBSOIL (AUGER HOLE). ALL THE SOIL SAMPLES WILL BE ANALYISED. THE SOIL SURVEY WILL BE LOCATED IN THE PELOPONNESUS REGION AND WILL BE DISTRIBUTED FOR ABOUT 2/3 IN THE CORINTHUS PROVINCE AND 1/3 IN THE REST OF THE REGION. THE EXACT LOCATION OF THE SITE TO SURVEY WAS GIVEN BY CRA-ABP.
Presented by Prof. Konstantinos Kyriakopoulos, EKPA
The selection of the areas where to perform the survey has been realized by CRA ABP through the intersection of the layers related to the use of the ground, the physiography the lithology getting 71 areas inside which to realize the survey.

The surveying activity must follow the technical specifications of the 4th chapter of the Costantini E. A. C. (2007) manual and/or the USDA “Soil survey manual”, but the next sub-articles contain integrative specifications.
The survey activity will consist of the spade digging of at least 75 minipits. The spade digging will be done up to 0.5 m, or to a not excavable soil horizons if present. All the horizons found up to 0.5 m will be described. The minipit will be further manually-augered up to 1.5 m from the surface, or up to a not excavable soil horizons if present, describing all the horizons found up to that depht. At least two sample for each site will be taken: one for topsoil (minipit) and one for subsoil (auger hole). The soil depht must be described.
The site coordinates have always to be indicated, using the UTM34WGS84 system as coordinate system.
The presence, type and area incidence of soil erosion and landslides phenomena have to be always indicated.
The personnel of CRA-ABP and EKPA will participate for at least 5 days to the soil surveying, to check the implementation of the methodology and to collect samples that will be analysed in the laboratories of CRA-ABP.
For each identified soil horizon, a sample of about 1 kg has to be sampled.
Collected soil samples will be air dried before analysing. Each soil sample will be univocally identified by the soil observation CODEX, the number and code of the horizon, the horizon boundaries in cm and the date (day, month, year) of observation.
Pictures of the surveyed soil minipits and landscape will be taken.
The following analyses must be done on the collected soil samples: particle size according to the Soil Taxonomy USDA methodology (5 classes of sand, silt, clay), organic matter, bulk density, salinity, ESP, pH, and base saturation, according to USDA. All the results of analysis will be added in the soil database. Bulk density, in particular, will be measured with the core method, with at least two replications, but only on the topsoil.
Soils must be classified according to both WRB 2006 and Soil Taxonomy 2010.
Surveyed and analysed data have to be stored in the Cncp_b.mdb database, using the ISIS soil information system and its codes. The data computerization must follow the technical specifications of the 3d chapter of the Costantini E. A. C. (2007) manual.

NoteDuring soil surveys in Peloponnese area I will participate (Prof. Konstantinos Kyriakopoulos, EKPA) in order to supervise the whole activities and facilitate the completion of the field work of the company. Also, during the re-sampling field work to be able to accompany the group of ABP CRA in the same sites.
