based on experiential learning

Where did we start from?

85% of pupils travel less than 1 mile to school.

24% of children regularly travelling to school by car.

Off site educational trips for Key Stage 1 pupils – once a year using coach transport.

Early Years pupils did not go off site for their end of year ‘trip’.

Introduction to the Travel Plan

At Chatsworth the Healthy Schools initiative is

a fundamental part of our school ethos and it underpins all our work.

We believe the health of the whole child is vital to their educational success.

We hope the travel plan will become integral to the further development of healthy lifestyles for everyone in the school community.

The School Council take an active role in implementing the School Travel Plan.

Wheels to school day

We all had great fun when we brought our bikes to school.

Some of us remembered to wear the right safety equipment.

Tanvir knew how to fix his bike when the chain came off.

Even Mr Wright joined in!

Thanks to the travel plan funding we now have a cycle shelter for the staff and children to use.

Educational Visits

What Next?

Develop cycling to school through a possible partnership with Cycle Experience and their ‘Try Cycling’ scheme

What Next?

Extend public transport trips to include Early Years.

What Next?

Further promote waking to school – Junior Road Safety Officers

Extend and develop our environmental education and through this the children’s ability to make ‘Better Travel Choices’

Try to engage parents and carers with the ‘Better Travel Choice Agenda’

Any ideas gratefully received!!!!!!

We would not have been able to implement these plans without…

The clear vision of the headteacher and senior leadership team

The commitment of staff The support of parents and carers The enthusiasm of our pupils The continuing support from the School

Travel Team

We will only continue to be successful if this high quality support and commitment can be maintained.
