Literacy is thenumber one

predictor of achild's ability to

succeed inschool.

In fact, the majority ofkids who read belowgrade level in firstgrade will most likelystill read below gradelevel in the fourthgrade and may nevercatch up.

One in five of the childrenand adults in

the UnitedStates have

dyslexia! Dyslexia is genetic and neurological.

The two most common problemsinmates will have – chemical

dependency and illiteracy.

The most commoncharacteristic ofjuvenile offenders isliteracy issues.

A high school drop-out is 8 timesmore likely to end up in jail.

The most common reason aperson will not graduate fromhigh school is poor literacy skills.

Reading failure caused by dyslexia is

highly preventable through direct,explicit instruction and early

intervention is essential.

Links to Literacy was officiallycreated in the Summer of 2009and is dedicated to providing anindividualized intervention forlow-moderate income studentsin the Sioux Falls Metro Area.
